Why do the most evangelical states have the least-educated populations?

This report shows that 75% of Oklahoma students can't name the first U.S. President:

This report shows that Oklahoma is one of the nation's three most evangelical states:

I don't think it's a coincidence.

No, not just a coincidence - studies have shown that the more educated you are, the less likely you are to be religious, and if you are religious, the less likely it is to be a fundamentalist religion. Religions really don't encourage education - education teaches you how to think critically and question what you're taught, and that doesn't bring anyone to religions.

I think the reason for this would be all the government involvement in our education system. The government fails miserably at everything it does except killing people and blowing things up. The fact is that there is no correlation between Evangelicals and government education as seen by our fictitious separation of church and state the supreme court discovered right before abortion in the late 60's. The most successful schools are where government has the least involvement. Private schools, and home schoolers. Anyone who tries to tie these two together obviously has their eyes and ears plugged and is not using common sense. Atheists are the biggest progenitors of this myth as it serves their agenda. This is one of their babies. Have a happy life!
