Why do so many people fixate on the depiction of Jesus in modern culture as...

...the true image of Jesus Himself? The tall, good looking, brown-haired, fair skinned depiction that Western culture envisions as Jesus was first depicted in art several centuries after the crucification of Jesus Christ and long after any living witness of Jesus Christ were still alive. History tells us that it is very improbable that he would have such physical features and would probably be much darker skinned that any depiction that we see of him now. So why is it that we continue to overlook basic historical truths and continue to westernize him when he surely did not look like this during his time on earth?

It's a tradition of man.

It is a shame for a man to have long hair.

And we know Christ never did anything that was a shame. He never sinned.

He looked like a 30 year old Jewish man.

Probably b/c people tend to feel more connected to and more comfortable with someone who looks like them.

I've seen depictions of an African American Jesus as well.
