why do people get scared of 2012?Many educated people disregard it has false?

The Mayans who were Intelligent tribes had a calender that ends there, Nostradamus predicted the world will end in 1999 (2012 obviously been close). However Nostradamus's predictions only seem accurate because he doesn't give a date and when you predict something without giving a date it will happen at some point.

Personally I don't believe in it.
 
Many "common" people believe in this "Phenomenon".Why is it?
Many Astronomers, astrophysicists know it won't happen.People specialised or have hobbies in physics can tell you it won't happen.The theorists behind it why do they coincide these dates with mayan calender reset or something?Other than money?They only got probability theory on their side.If it doesn't occur on the specified date whats there excuse?Cultists performing rituals etc?
 
Yeah, I don't get it either. There is no substantial proof that the end of the world will take place in 2012. I personally can't wait to hear the excuse :-)
