...they live? The Mideast,and the USA...why must they intertwine and twist the meanings of the dominate religions of their cultures?
 
They don't do very well thinking about hard questions, and religion provides them with nice easy answers.

But in the USA, it was more the other way 'round. The fundamentalists hijacked the republican party. Barry Goldwater would not recognize the modern republican party.

Conservatives harken to tradition and are greatly adverse to change.
What better way to tie those two together through religious tradition and fundamentalism to guarantee a lack of change.
All conservatives tend to look back for the good times. To wrap themselves in tradition and pine for the way things used to be.
"Give me that old time religion..."
