Why do Americans go to other countries and try to "educate" them?

You are correct. I learned this by traveling to over 30 countries. Americans are the center of hate for most of the world because of its arrogance, self righteousness and indulgence. America thinks it has a right to police the world and that we are the greatest nation on earth and nothing else matters. The only reason we, as Americans, have that privelege is because we are separated from most of the world by the atlantic and pacific ocean and have land, that is truly the only reason.
America is ungly, we need to concentrate on the cancer of our society instead of tryiing to fix the acne of another.
I agree and I say that as an american who served his country in the military/
 
Seems an American past-time is to go overseas and espouse the wonders of America. They have no interest in where they are, they just want to tell you why America is. Almost every sentence begins "In America, we ....". Do you think Americans would like it if people went to their country and all they did was mouth off about how fantastic their country is?
The galling thing is, they do this and when you say, "I don't care about America" or "So what if you do it like that, why are you telling me about how much better you think your toilets are?" they get right upset! Tell you, you are ignorant!
Why can't Americans just visit somewhere and keep their mouths shut? Why do they feel the need to try to get everyone to do things the American way? Especially now that they can see their way is a disaster?

1. Don't ignore that I never mentioned the government. We don't care about your government. They don't come to our countries, the people do. It's not the government, it's you, specifically you Chris. That government scapegoat doesn't work on me.
2. The government has everything to do with the people by the way.
Chris: One more nugget of wisdom you had was "maybe you should lighten up and stop being stuck up snobs like the french." -So not all Americans are ignorant, but all French are snobs? Ah so this is the correct way I should see the world. Thanks for educating me again.

Probably that same thing that drove Europeans to run all over the world to "save" and "liberate" people from their dire circumstances.
 
i don't know but it is dumb, i'm from japan living in america but all i hear in america are the following;

the legecy of america
sex
drugs
gossip
ractisim
rap and metal music
religon

i don't get to hear anything els from peopul living here, i want to return to japan but i'm stuck in a siuation wair i can't
 
I don't think you are being fair. Now I can see in the stand point of trying to Americanize other countries. I understand what you mean about that. Yes, we as Americans have been and are guilty of trying to impose our traditions on other countries that have their own ways. We have been trying to play global police for years, and it hasn't worked. Even when it comes to Americans traveling to other countries, we don't really give other cultures a chance, however this isn't the case for all Americans. I do agree we as a country can do better. But the way you are asking this question comes off as a generalization. We can do better, but the the way to do better is to accept other cultures. Instead of going to other countries and trying to infuse their culture with ours, we need to let the other countries have their way, and we share our ways when appropriate. I also think it is an issue of pride. We as American show pride wherever we go. Pride is great, but we need to make sure we don't forget other cultures have something to offer to the world, not just us.
