why do americans give their kids bizarre names like toyota and alopecia?

the beckhams couldnt stand the sensible naming of kids on the UK

so they moved to LA where they'd feel more at home lol
 
Ok...here's my theory.

We tend to associate names with faces. Like, I wouldn't ever name a child Mark because I knew a Mark and he was an ugly jerk or I love the name Lily because I knew a Lily who was beautiful, smart, and kind.

Celebs want people to associate their (surely) beautiful children with odd or uncommon names because their child will be the one who spawned the phase.
 
ha, and those aren't even close to the worst.

i wish i had an answer for you..it's kind of a recent trend. I don't know any 50 year old women named quantiza or martisius or l'dasia, but i sure knew at least 3 of each in high school..all spelled differently of course.

oh i don't want to forget the 4 siblings i went to school with: tequila, chardonnay, brandy, and jack daniel.........seriously. 2 of them dropped out and the other 2 were pregnant before 16. eek.

it makes me sick.
 
i've never heard someone name there kid toyota. most people do bizarre names to try to be real unique. some are cool but some can be really ridiculous.
 
I don't know. There was a time when names were important and people chose them carefully. Now (shakes her head)
 
i admit I am guilty with one kid named Piper, a girl but it made her tuff and thats what I like!
 
Americans aren't so tight so Europeans and that way the kids wont get picked on as much
 
I don't know... maybe because they want to name their child something "creative" and original. Which is good, of coarse...

But most of the time people who try to do that just pick really weird/bizarre names that don't sound that great.
LOL. Oh well. All the power to them for trying.
 
Yeah, it's not just Americans that do that. I do think it's kind of weird for parents to give their kids such names because it could possibly lead to embarrasment in school.
 
because they dont give out IQ test before you get pregnant. Please put a stop to the Chandelier's and Apples
 
I know a family who named their 4 kids w/last names - carter, bailey, miller & grayson.....

..personally, I like William ... Debbie...Becky...David...Micheal...?
