Why did the "Government'' award a £1.5 billion contract to the German company of...
...Siemens costing 1400 U K jobs? This ''Government'' decision was only a week after they urged British industry to give jobs to British people and their recent statements of confidence that the economy would pick up with a ''manufacturing led'' recovery. Is it me or is their rhetoric incompatible with their action?
So, it's all a matter of, 'do as I say, but not as I do''. ''What's good for the goose in not necessarily good for the the Tory gander''.The contract was not decided a long time ago but was only awarded today after competitive, but close tendering. Have a point anyway. Germany makes a lot of it's products outside Germany, like in the sweat shops of India. Well done ''The Patriotic Tories''. Now we can see how you are going to put Britain back on it's feet, can't we?
@ ''Old Know It All'', You may very well be right but according to the B.B.C, (you know, that well known British Broadcasting radio and television company), it was a "Government" decision to place the contract with Siemens. They stated this at least twice, once on the radio 4 news this morning and again during the lunchtime television news. It was their reports which prodded me to ask the question. Either you are wrong or the B.B.C. are broadcasting anti government propaganda. With all due respect old bean I'll take report of the B.B.C, as being correct.
Once again, why does the government expect British companies to recruit staff on the sole basis that they are British and not on merit. If the ramblings of "some'' of the respondents is to be taken seriously that nothing of quality can be manufactured in Britain and only those products made elsewhere, but in particular Germany, should be purchased, then boys and girls if that doesn't graphically illustrate what is wrong with G.B, today you are even more intellectually challenged than I thought you were.
