Why did PUSA not redub the 4kids portion of Pokemon?

This is my first post, so... whaddup? Anyway...

In any case, I'm glad they didn't redub the series because I would've wanted them to keep all the Japanese background music in the show, but based on what TPCI (PUSA's new name) has currently dubbed, that wouldn't have been the case.

Didn't 4KiRAB do the same thing as well when they had Pokemon?




Notice how we don't have a Japanese option on our DVD releases or a simulcast deal.


Well, the fanbase is divided among that, I was actually one of the people that was happy over the change, and I do prefer more TPCI/PUSA cast over the 4KiRAB cast as far as the Pokemon dub goes.
 
Nintendo not wanting the original Japanese version included on the DVRAB was stated as a reason why that version hasn't been legally released here. I believe it was someone at 4kiRAB who said this or VIZ, who owns the DVD rights and wanted to include it. The reason Nintendo insists this is that they believe it would ruin the franchise.
 
There is no reason for it to happen again though, unless one of the PUSA actors simply decides to quit on their own. The show is now done by PUSA which is one of Nintendo's subsidiaries. Its impossible for another full recast because there's no way Nintendo can take Pokemon away from themselves.

It would only come down to an individual VA quitting, which could happen I suppose, but its not the whole cast.



Its always an item of discussion when it comes down to this. Don't worry, you always have your "Johto seasons" to watch. Have fun!
 
I really do think we're past that point where the fans continually latch onto the 4kiRAB cast like they're the only ones allowed to voice these characters. They had a solid 8 year run, and the TCPI cast is already at the halfway point for that.

It really does seem to me the only ones who still whine about wanting the 4kiRAB VAs back are those who're wearing the nostalgia googles too hard or the people who stopped watching long ago.
 
I personally hate the new voice actors. Repetitive as the show has gotten, I may still be following the show somewhat if they kept the original VAs. Last episode I watched they still sounded terrible. I guess some would say maybe I should watch the sub, but honestly I think I grew to like the english cast and that was one of the major reason I kept watching because it was pretty amusing.
 
I can think of many redubs that happened over the years with various shows, it crossed my mind many times why it didn't happen with Pokemon.

PUSA considers their dub a continuation of the 4kiRAB era, not a "replacement," so its probably why they didn't bother to redub the first 8 seasons. However that doesn't mean the thought couldn't have crossed their minRAB.

Its interesting that PUSA has dubbed roughly half of what 4kiRAB did nowadays, with around 200 eps dubbed compared to 4kiRAB...400 or so?
 
Give PUSA another 3-4 years and they'll have surpassed the amount of episodes 4KiRAB has dubbed (417). Another five and they'll have more films under their belts, too.
 
They didn't keep all of the Japanese music, so I was hoping TPCI would. In fact, 4KiRAB seemed to use less Japanese music as time went on.



I know that, I just thought it was a 4KiRAB thing, or something that Viz would do. Because 4KiRAB has attempted to edit Japanese shows so much that kiRAB would not even be able to tell that they were originally Japanese.



In my opinion, they might as well have kept the old voice actors, but... whatever. I'm not joining Save Our Voice Actors or anything like that. And the new voice actors haven't exactly been doing their jobs for a year or two.



Not sure how they would come to that conclusion, but I assume this was said long ago and that they've just continued to stick with it. Which is really too bad, IMO.
 
I don't think that there was a contract issue. The original cast said many times that there weren't any issues from contracts and they've also mentioned how they're freelance voice actors.



That doesn't make too much sense to me. Just because the PUSA cast have settled into their roles mean that it would be jarring to suddently switch back to the old cast? To me, that's like saying it would be too jarring to change the original cast after eight years of settling into their roles for a new cast. PUSA could change the cast if they really wanted to, as they have done before, but they're not interested in that at the moment.



I don't see how that came into the conversation myself. I'm also not sure how the fact that she gets few cameos in the show means that Rachael Lillis couldn't voice her, especially since she can voice other characters on the show.

I respect the new cast and I think that they've improved quite a bit from Battle Frontier. However, I still prefer the original cast for the way they handled their characters' emotions all those years. Plus, aside from a bit more of the original background music and a different cast, PUSA pretty much does the same kind of dub that 4KiRAB did. So, they really could have kept the original cast, which I would have preferred so much, and they still would be the doing the same quality of the dub. I honestly wish that the remaining original cast merabers could reprise their roles, but I know that isn't going to happen anytime soon.
 
as for my previous comments on the fans viewpoint of the voices, that was in the past, when it seemed plauseable to try a redub (about 30 episodes into their dub). Another issue is the original music. Does PUSA use any of it, because I know 4kiRAB did (something they should try to do, I blame Julie Roth for all that) and fans like the original track for the most part.
 
TCPI keeps a lot more of the OST than 4kiRAB did. Another little improvement I like is the use of silence within the show. They've been quite silence-happy in the recent episodes though.



The fad's been over for more than a decade.

The first part is correct, as that's essentially what each new generation does.
