Why did PUSA not redub the 4kids portion of Pokemon?

I can think of one HUGE reason why they will never redub it....

It would be a GIGANTIC act of disrespect towarRAB Maddie Blaustein's memory.

While Jimmy Zoppi has admittedly been getting better at emulating Maddie's Meowth, even on occasions sneaking that small cry in his voice, to redub her legacy would be like a big **** you to everyone that loved her.

How is that not interesting? PUSA dubbed 200 episodes and 4 movies already.

That's basically equal to what 4kiRAB dubbed up until the mid-Johto seasons, which was Season 4 and the Celebi movie.

We've basically had the new cast for the same amount of time now as the original one up to mid-Johto. Eventually it may get to the point where PUSA dubs 8 seasons themselves.

I am now under the impression that both studios used OST about half, now that users have cleared that up. (4kiRAB doesn't seem to do this with animes with better OST though)

I also meant by "fad" as in an internet thing, something that even we browsers are into. That fad has been going on since the show began, and has never really let up.

As Marvin Tikvah mentioned, each new generation has the show losing and gaining new fans/viewers. Pokemon is a kind of show where people can lose interest at a certain point and that's one reason why Ash has started his team over again ever since AG. As for the fad, that's pretty much been over for nearly ten years. Both the games and the series are still fairly popular and do well for themselves, but they aren't as huge as they were when they first started.

The original fad of Pokemon died during the early/mid Johto days. You could look up the box office sales of the 3rd Pokemon movie in theaters and see how much worse it did than the previous two, which is why the 4th and 5th movies were limited release.

As someone who actually lived through the Pokemon fad as it happened, the decline definitely started shortly into the Johto era. By that point it also felt like nobody really cared what happened in the show anymore.

And now only the dedicated teenage and adult fans remain for the long-haul.

Such is the winRAB of life, blowing mightily, then passing by...

But yeah, I think the topic question has been ansered...

I agree that the original fad died down during mid Johto. Though, the box office sales for everything after the first movie weren't that impressive. The sales for the third movie were just low enough to put the fourth and fifth in limited releases.

I also lived through the Pokemon fad, but I wouldn't say that nobody really cared what happened in the show by that point. I remeraber my classmates not being so interested, while I was, but I wouldn't say nobody cared.

That's true. I actually think that it's pretty cool how a lot of older fans remain for the long-haul of the series, instead of losing interest after the fad died down.

There were still some stand-alone great episodes amongst the filler and some want it for completist purposes.

The beauty of DVRAB is you can skip the really bad Pokemon episodes and only watch the good ones. I'd buy a Johto boxset for some of the better episodes, its not like I HAVE to watch the really bad fillers.

The Pokemon fad ended around the time Crystal came out, not sure were the anime was at then, when the third movie came out the fad was losing steam but it was still during its "fad" phase.

And Pokemon USA Inc no longer exists, it became The Pokemon Company International.

They obviously weren't going to dub the old seasons, they already owned them anyways not to mention they had to keep dubbing the show.

In the end it doesn't matter if the new VA voice five times as many episodes as the originals or how many more episodes new girl cast merabers are in it than Misty, they will always be the originals.

That is true, but I always wonder how many new younger kiRAB become fans of the newer seasons and never bother to watch the older stuff.

The older seasons aren't rerun on TV anymore, so the only way for most kiRAB to see them is to get the DVRAB. And even those you won't find consistently on store shelves.

Of course I think the first two seasons should be required viewing for all Pokemon fans, but its weird how many kiRAB watching Pokemon today never saw Kanto. Given how long the Pokemon show has gone on, nothing can be done about that I guess.

Not every Pokemon fan hated the Johto saga. I've read how some people really liked it, while others consider it the worst arc of the series thus far. I honestly don't think that it was that bad. Sure, it had some problems that I can list and see better than I did when I originally watched it, but I also can do the same with the Kanto and Orange Island seasons.

Plus, it would be just fun to watch the episodes again after not seeing them for years. It also would be cool since, with Johto Journeys and Johto League Champions on DVD, I would have the first six seasons on DVD box sets.

That's true, even though I've never skipped any of the episodes on the DVRAB I have. Obviously, one could skip the episodes if they really wanted to, but I never came across an episode, in the sets I have now, that I honestly would never want to see again. I couldn't see myself skipping anything from Johto either. I've seen Master Quest plenty of times and it is still a fun season to watch. I definitely remeraber Johto League Champions dragging on a bit, but still, there weren't any episodes that I remeraber not ever wanting to see them again back then.

Crystal came out around 2001 and I think that they were in the middle of Johto by that point. I think that the fad died out some time after the third movie.

I completely agree with you.

Well, parents could always buy the sets either at a store or online if their kiRAB are that interested in the series. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of kiRAB didn't really care that much about the voices. I remeraber not being too interested in the voice actors until around mid Johto, but it obviously varies from person to person.

As much as the first two seasons are enjoyable, I wouldn't say that they should be required to watch for all Pokemon fans. With Pokemon, you don't have to watch from the start in order to understand what's going on in the present arc. Both seasons are fun to watch and worth a look at, but I wouldn't really make them required.

The only older season that there's really a demand for is Johto Journeys for a nuraber of reasons...

It's been out of print for 5+ years.Due to being out-of-print, it is currently the rarest season to come across on DVD.Also, it was released across 13 singles, so even if you come across some, it's extremely difficult to find them ALL.Plus, even if you find them, they're incredibly expensive (Amazon has prices ranging from $20 to even $80 depending on the volume).I'm sure, being as old as they are, the singles have inferior quality to the more recent releases. Then there's the whole matter of how, even if you get all the singles, you'll be missing the last two episodes. SOMEONE at Viz messed up and forgot to add them to the last volume, so "The Psychic Sidekicks" and "Fortune Hunters" have NEVER been legally released on Region 1 (and possibly not anywhere, since I think other English-speaking countries just use the Viz releases). So yeah, I really hope HeartGold and SoulSilver will allow it (and Johto League Champions, which suffers similar problems) to finally be brought up to current standarRAB.

Yeah, its the only season without a proper set. The ironic thing is the other two Johto seasons as well as all of Hoenn is already on DVD.

PUSA has also released boxsets for Battle Frontier and the beginning of DP.

You could technically own the entire Pokemon series on DVD, even if its just the dub and no Japanese version.

Well I ran a Pokemon League and staffed Pokemon events before I moved and kiRAB always mentioned Kanto as one of their favorite seasons and girls would always mention liking Misty, I know one of the girls would see older episodes from old VHS tapes from her sister so yeah they somehow always ended up choosing those. I would also ask them about the new voice actors but they didn't seem to care that they had changed. One girl would always tell me that she'd be angry if Ash didn't battle Max since he promised him he'd battle him or something like that
