The media portrays ghetto culture as "cool" and "bada*s" Because of that younger people are attracted to it and try their hardest to fit the stereotype of it.
Obviously, most of these kids following a trend like this aren't the real thing, ( many of the followers live in middle class suburbs) and just set themselves up for ridicule from people with a mind of their own, yet they continue to act this way, because it grants them acceptance from the "cool people" at school, who are mostly just full of sh*t anyway.
They try to seem hardcore and bad*ss, yet the second the media started promoting different ideas as cool, they'd flock in droves to follow it. And last I checked, it's not exactly admirable to be a follower.
