Why are these speakers not hitting like they should?

I helped someone today hook up there subs an I cannot figure out why they are not bumping like they should be. Keep in mind that this could be a small gain issue that they havent been set right yet. but I have a few questions before I mes with it tomorrow.

Could a bad ground be the reason they are not hittin with the bass that well.??? the speakers do play and do have sound coming out of them. just not hard bass like they should.

On the back of the cd player there are rca spots and the ones I plugged them up to was the on that had an "SW" I assumed that they were for "subwoofer" but there were also two other sets. one was labed "rear" and the other set was labeled "front" could this be the issue?

I did turn up the gain on the amp but not much happened. maybe its the gain control on the cd player itself in the menu? On the amp the rcas are connected to the set that is "inline" the other choice was "ouput"

would the amp even power on if the ground wasnt a good ground?

and running the remote wire with the rcas a good idea? I know not to run the ower wire with the rcas but Im not sure about the remote.

If someone can help me with all of this I will be sure to give best answer.

Dont worry about the ground for now. Try messing with the gain tomorrow and see if it works. If not Connect to the "output" . Alot of times there can just be crossed wires that don't lead to the right place. Try different hookups and see if the problem corrects. Most times the gain on the player itself doesnt mess with the bass in general. Not that it doesnt matter, but you should feel something even with it turned down on the player. If all else fails check the ground again. All I can say is I can't see it so mess with it till you can find someone who can :/ hope this helped even a little lol.
