educated idiots? Is school just one? big commercialized distraction? Before the students are even through getting their subject materials and assignments they are requested to purchase things that have little to do with the primary reason for education. Schools are flush with salesmen representing class photo's, jewelry, publications, special clothing, and of course year-books! Too much freedom? Lack of code? or discipline? How is it they can quickly learn the names of rock stars, group names, and the names and lyrics of odd and weird songs?
No way Jan, in the most part I can see what you say and if the kids are directed through popular and frequent pursuit of the 'good things' by their surroundings, it would raise the level even above the standard. Second: too much freedom is why the bad guys are enabled to pursue criminal activities and a " Me first " attitude. Some restriction is good for a well oiled society to behave itself and not give in to human behavior of the worst among us.
 
Before I bother into the history, type, power ups etc. of the 400+ Pokemon that most teens have memorised from pre-primary school years, it is worthwhile mentioning that kids will always learn more about what they are interested in. I don't think that rote memory involved in memorising all the latest rock (etc.) groups names is doing them any harm. I don't know how old you are, but my son is amazed that I appear to know all the words to all the pop type songs that came out in the 60s, 70s and 80s. I wasn't even aware of this until recently when I have taken on listening to a "Gold" radio station. What I am saying is that I don't think that much has changed as far as memorising popular songs is concerned. I question your "Too much freedom" - Most teens have far less freedom than I ever did at their age as society is far more violent and dangerous today. Society (adults) are to blame for not ensuring a safer World for them to live in.
 
Because love, caring, respect, human potential, and accomplishment are meaningless goals and words falling on indifferent ears. No one cares enough to stand up to the slings and arrows of the degenerate left. Everything they champion is restricting and dragging down decency and common sense. They do not allow recourse or debate on any number of their proposals. Man made Global warming? Carbon credits? Halt to needed energy projects because of minnows that may or may already be extinct.
