Why are black people that are educated, well employed and articulate called...

..."TOMS" by other black people? This makes no sense.

What do you want these black people with their act together do? Stay back with you on that road to nowhere fast?

maybe if 99% of them weren't crack dealing, car jacking, corner store shopping, swap meet rats, 40oz drinking gangbanging thugs and whores then that term would have never been created.
 
The center of black political power or it's justification for power lies in a poor, Democratic base. Any black person who rises above or walks away from that is a threat (consciously or unconsciously) to that power or to that groups' collective self-esteem. They must be discredited and their opinions dismissed thus they are labeled Toms, sell-outs, house negros, whatever works.

A somewhat comparable analogy would be union workers thinking those who come in to fill a job while they are on strike are despicable scabs. Some black kids are harassed by others when they take their schooling seriously. They get labeled as sell-outs for some of the same reasons above.
 
Because we are hated by everyone. Other races make assumptions about educated blacks, because the ghetto ones are the only ones they know. Other blacks make fun of us, and beat us up all day. I went through it all in high school, just because i refused to be a stereotypical black.
 
You assume that those are the reasons they are called that name by other blacks. I've never heard of this in real life...just on TV. In real life most blacks celebrate when someone in the community gets into college, or gets a good job. Being called an "Uncle Tom" is probably because a few have been completely sold on the idea of what the standard is, and they base it off what a white person thinks is acceptable. Those are the ones who get called that name. They think that unless you conform to what white society thinks you should, then you are "on a road to nowhere fast".

The only black people that are called uncle toms are blacks that hate black people and hate the black community like Larry Elder who has written books calling black people stupid Jesse Lee Peterson has called blacks socialist devils for voting for Obama.

That's what being a uncle tom is being uncle tom has nothing to do with being educated im a educated black woman with a 7 year college law degree and I've never been called a uncle tom.No black person has ever called Obama uncle tom no black person has ever called educated Oprah a uncle tom.


SO THE NEXT TIME YOU WRITE A QUESTION LEARN ABOUT BLACK CULTURE FIRST YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT A UNCLE TOM IS.
 
This terminology no longer used. Maybe about 10-20 years ago, but I havent heard anyone called this in a looooooong time. We are actually proud of someone who is doing well for themselves.
 
This is a broad statement. Alot of blacks believe this and alot congratulate on your accomplishments.
