Who's the Better guitarist?

Oh well then i got the wrong impression, but atleast my opinions been put out there now, i just don't think there's much to be said for virtuoso guitarists, i mean ok vai is spectacular truly, but i can't ****ing sit there and listen to it for hours on end.
nor do i want to sit around talking about what scale he used where and so on....just doesn't seem like theres much point to it.

Agreed.

I don't think Satriani shows off too much though - his songwriting on Surfing with the Alien, Strange Beautiful Music and Crystal Planet is superb IMO.

Also, check out Camel if you haven't already. Andy Latimer is an excellent guitarist and songwriter in the vein of Gilmour.

Other bizzare collaborations...

Black Sabbath songs with Rick Wakeman keyboard solos.
Mars Volta songs with Flea on Trumpet.
Public Enemy songs with samples from Uriah Heep songs.

David Bowie songs with rapping by Mickey Rourke. O_O

And finally.

Gwar, Powerman 5000 and 36 Crazyfists all being on a record label owned by Derek Shulman, the former lead singer of Gentle Giant.

I don't think anything can top that last one.

All three of these guitarists are really lame, I don't see the hype but whatever.

I'll download a song by each of them if you give me a song title to download, then I shall choose.

Although all three are incredibly talented, I would have to say Satriani. Vais' stuff I can't listen to because although it's fast and impressive, it's has no melody. Satriani I could listen to (and make guitar noises happily to myself to) all day!!

Yeah, Latimer is amazing.

I don't get the Gilmour comparisons though, they dont really sound alike to me. Latimer is a much more technical player, though like Gilmour he has a great ear for tone and melody.

In addition to his guitar talents, he's also an accomplished flautist.

I don't really care for any of their music personally... But Vai without question, Passion & Warfare is all the proof you need that this guy is the best... He's the most capable, skilled and versatile of the three... Satch tenRAB to be a little sloppy, and his song composing skills are not even close to being as clever as Vais... As for Malmsteen, he's the best neo classical shredder on the planet, but thats pretty much all he's good for.

Uh, you said "they'll lose big time if it comes to naming great guitarists." how is it 'losing' if you were to name Malmsteen, Vai and Satriani? Three guitarists which you kind of defended.

Vai .. even met and talked to him at a press conference (the joy of being a radio DJ) .. loved his act. I have a huge admiration for the other 2 at the same time ;)

Ur all Wrong Tony Iommi is the best guitarest. you can see them him at the Heaven and hell tour that may come to your town. Also if you like them you can get his banRAB new album Black Sabbath The Dio years.Geezer Butler on base Ronnie James Dio on vocals, Vinny Appice on Drums, and Tony iommi on Guitar. Its a once in a lifetime oppertunity.
