Who will be the next Batman villain? (no spoilers in first post)

you're right on the name. people are just guessing that he might take that name when/if he becomes the riddler. he's obviously intelligent, vile and worked for wayne and has the one up in knowing that Fox is supplying the batman and that wayne is likely to be batman (especially after wayne saved his ass, even if he tried to play it off).

in batman begins, we had the obvious thing of the introduction of the joker at the end. in this one the only hints were what i posted. (unless i missed something).

i was pleased to see that we got some closure with the scarecrow and it's possible that they'll bring harvey back, especially since they obviously can't bring the joker back. nobody saw harvey die, at best we saw him unconscious after bats tackles him to save gordon's son. as was proved with gordon, funerals don't mean shit.

reese knowing/believing that wayne is bats could be a big factor in the third film since all of gotham will be hunting/hating batman.

very much possible. dent did live long enough to become a villain, it's just the the only people that know are sal, ramirez, the gordons and bats and assumedly alfred and fox. likewise, bats is still a hero, but the only people that know are dent (who doesnt give a shit), fox, the gordons and alfred.

are you saying that with cgi advancements they could be done or they could be done in a way that fits the dark tone of the movie? theres a difference..

IMO..

all of them with the exception of firefly (MAYBE) would be too silly to portray as is in this darker meaner batman series..

While I agree that the non sci-fi angle of these batman movies puts Mr Freeze out of the line up, his character and back-story are the closest out of all of them to the type of darkness that these movies have.

The Riddler, Hush, and Dent/Two-Face would be a very possible trio. As far as I know, in the comics, The Riddler knows Batman's real identity (just like Reese). Hush is supposed to be a childhood friend of Bruce's that goes on to become a doctor. And Hush is supposed to also fix up Dent's face, which ultimately leads to him going back onto the right side of the law and helping Batman.

Seems like it could work, but it would definitely need a Nolan touch to be darker and less comic-book-esque.

The only problem with this is, though, that they still need to introduce another female character. Personally, I'm of the opinion that the "cats" line in the movie was just an homage to Catwoman, and not an allusion or foreshadow. What other female characters are there?

If I'm not mistaken...I believe he actually calls himself The Scarecrow, when he poisons Rachel. Also....Falcone, was saying "Scarecrow" over and over, when he was locked up.

you guys are missing the point of the new series of Batman/Dark Knight films...its a REBOOT..

So far these films have maintained a certain level of darkness almost noir quality to them in tone and look.

The joker was portrayed more like a terrorist than a crazy killer whose catch was a punchline at the end of a crime. In that regard (in post 911) he was more relatable to us than any other Joker portrayal...

Ra's Al Ghul and Scarecrow (note Scarecrow wasn't CALLED scarecrow but you knew who he was..that wasn't by mistake) was treated in a similar fashion...just realistic enough to accept and get into the story.

Alot of the Batmans other villians don't meet up with that kind of treatment (unless you just want the penquin in name only and portrayed in a different fashion)..the same with clayface and madhatter killer croc etc..

The riddler can be done in a compelling way BUT the writing has to be good..I mean Silence Of The Lambs in Gotham type of way..Where E Nigma gives just enough hints to make Batman and GCPD run around the city on wild goose chases and people DIE..

IF (and i oppose the 2 villains for every movie thing but..) IF you wanted to have another villain then you could stick Catwoman in as a distraction/love interest..I'd give her a MINOR role..more like a jewel thief nuisance to Batman rather than a major player.. for example in one scene while hes hunting down a clue from the Riddler he spots Catwoman doing some shit and hesitates for a second then decides shes not important at the moment and continues on with the major crime investigation.

If you don't continue the dark tone and look then THIS Batman will just become like the other one...silly and overwrought.

Another example..Mr Freeze could be called that because hes a "cold motherfucker" with no remorse or his signature is the police keep finding frozen bodies..but otherwise he's a normal looking man.

Penguin could be just a nickname like they do in the mob.. vincent "the chin" gigante.. and he runs an even more ruthless organized crime ring..as opposed to a penguin looking dude with a goofy umbrella.. but you get the point.

they could always bring Ra's back as the league of shadows could've been what pushed the joker on the mob in another plot to destroy gotham.

i don't think we ever saw ra's die.

joker to anyone is meh and not just because of nolan's writing / ledger's acting.

joker has always been batman's arch rival, he represents the true opposite of what bats is trying to do and as such is #1 in his rogue's gallery. they literally played their best hand for this movie in terms of villains. not sure what they're going to do.

I'm trying to think of which villain will go hand-in-hand with the "Batman is a criminal" story they're going to go with...The Riddler could work really well in that regard as the guy who tries to figure out who Batman is while 'normal' and is looked as a saint or at least a really good guy, but as the Riddler he wreaks havoc etc.

if they do hush it'd have to be as a giant afterthought as they haven't given any indication in the last two films that bruce had any other childhood friends other than dawes.

riddler and two face seem like the best candidates.

Although that doesn't mean he won't do another one. The studio will definitely want to do another one, and at least Bale said he's willing to return. Given how much $ this made I can't see them not making another one.

i didn't see gordon's daughter, so i don't know how old she is. i doubt they'll go there.

either ra's al ghul's daughter (i wholeheartedly doubt they'll backtrack to him at this point) or catwoman, who i have my doubts on them going to.

i think it's very possible that they'll continue on this dark downward spiral and not introduce a female character. (night is darkest just before the light. it's about to get a whole lot darker for bats)
