Seriously, I don't want anti "big oil" answers, I want truthful reasons behind our gas prices. First, it makes no sense to solely lay blame on one entity. What is the combination responsible for the rising prices?
Saudi greed, red tape via our government taxing "big oil" through the roof (oil companies are making 10 cents on the dollar versus our fed government making 35 cents on the dollar), the lack of buidling new refineries, China's newly booming dependency on foreign oil that we too are dependent on??? What are the reasons because I'm fed up with all the G-- D--- "big oil" crap. There is so much more to it, but I can't get it straight... and please include things to back up the points, but not conspiracy type garbage, actual facts that have no general bias, just passing along the facts.

Thanks.
Thanks to most... VERY intersting/insightful answers that weren't all the hyped up anti "big oil" garbage I've had to listen to lately...

And by the way "heartless", my big ol' SUV may chug a lug, but it's probably cleaner than most vehicles on the road (it's a 2007), not to mention, I PAY for that gas, and the per gallon taxes, and the registration, so that's pretty irrelevent to my question (your anti nice vehicle comment)... not to mention, a mini van doesn't get much better mileage we currently have three kids and another due later this year, so we can't have anything smaller. Not to mention, it's just a safe, clean vehicle.
Not ranting, just responding...

Rule #1 He who has the Gold rules! Black gold Texas tea! The next part of that equation is simple - create a market with no completion from any other energy source and corrupt the will of public servants to speak the truth or go after the crime family (Cartels -Opec- The oil families like Bush/Cheney)..Finally be willing to commit murder, mayhem and even blow up your own people ie, Trade Towers 9/11 in order to divert the attention away from corporations using our military as their puppets to steal resources from the rightful owners in other parts of the World..Ever watch a spoiled rich kid go after someone else's ice cream when there is all gone.

Oil prices are starting to catch up with reality. Yes this was sparked by current demand especially by China's booming industry.

But in 1965 I could put $0.22 per Gallon gas in my $1,800 new car and drive home to my $18,000 house.

I won't bother pointing out how other costs have gone up. I'll just say I haven't seen anyone get emotional about paying $1.30 for a liter of water. At $3.20 per Gallon, gas is $1.00 per liter.

There are outrageous profits being made but it's upstream in Exploration costs including equipment costs. Equipment and operational costs have quadrupled in the last 5 years. Yes Oil company profits have gone up because they current cost may be tied to old contracts while they have to pay these increased costs for future contracts.

at least here in the usa,how about we give some of the blame to the american people and the way we buy the big gas guzzlers. if we stopped buying them they would stop making them. next is the big oil companys. we should be moving on to other fuel sources or alternative power, and third are the utility companies not looking for other power options. that's it.

Well I'm not totally sure what to cause but I do know that if everyone stopped buying gas for atleast 1 day everything would go down groceries, gas prices everything but I know that everyone can't do that, we have to get to work everyday. But if everyone would go that they wouldn't have a choice but to bring EVERYTHING down to LOWER PRICES!!!! Everybody in america is to blame cause we fucking pay out of the ass for the shit!!!! Its so frusturating. E-mail me how your getting through these tough times and what kinda car u drive. I like to hear the stories! Do u have any children?

speculators! that's what drives the price up. and the congress which is what? oh democrats you say. these nut jobs will not let the oil companies drill for oil or build a refinery, will not let power companies build new reactors, yes boys and girls nuclear energy is here to stay. It would take 10-12 years to get the oil if we started drilling in Alaska today but the speculators would right away start driving down the price of oil. companies know have the ability to clean coal so it is not so bad but guess what ?cant use it because it is the black sheep of the energy family. so what I'm saying is we can be pro active or keep buying most of the oil from countries who will keep sticking it to us. or we can start doing some of these things.start drilling, the caribu will surive!

exxon mobils profits were 11 billion last quarter alone..

sure it's a cornucopia of BS which leads to the hike ups, but seriously.... 11BILLION in profits in one quarter alone? where has that money been going?
