who invented punk

If darker aspects of life are influence for punk I could also nominate Billie Holiday and the singers of african american folk music as the first punk rockers. Really african americans have always tended to use off kilter rythms and synocpation in there music so maybe its true that punk goes all the way back to the slaveships, and the cotten fielRAB of Georgia. This argument could go on forever, and no progressis made. Who cares who the first band was anymore, its here thats the past its over.

EARLY PUNK SIGHTING!

"People try to put us down
Just because we get around
Things they do look awful cold
Yeah, I hope I die before I get old

This is my generation
This is my generation, baby"

SounRAB pretty punk to me. 1965...

The Who, Stooges, New York Dolls: forefathers of punk
Ramones: when punk became punk
The Sex Pistols and Clash: don't count because neither were punk. The Clash were straight-up rock-and-roll with the occasional worldbeat influence, and the Sex Pistols were a boy band asserabled by a fashion designer.

Biased opinion don't lie...

dam **** ****in **** they talkin about punk then they talkin about **** we need good MOD here i can take this honor:thurab: just kiddin Mr Mod:bonkhead: :yeah:

well, there is not much of a selection there to vote for, but I would say in all fairness that it would be the Sex Pistols....of course....because they were around first and came from where punk was originated, and was needed the most. Good ol' UK!

The Velvet Underground were more an influence on the art rock side of the punk movement, your Talking HeaRAB , Television , Patti Smith types , and the British punks who went to art school (cept Lydon who hated them). If you want to get into the Velvet Underground expecting them to be an influnence on the 3 chord thrash type punk banRAB you are going to be very very disappointed.

MC5 were out before iggy and the stooges with kick out the jams though.
but i dont think either were really punk i think it was more proto punk like patti smith and the who and i dont think punk was really created with one band it was kinda evolved.Cause the ramones and clash and stuff were influenced by new york dolls and iggy and MC5.But they werent really punky and they were influenced by the who and such who were influenced by blues artist and so on and so on i think it was more of an evloution than anything.

Some people might find it rather interesting but as someone already said it doesn't get invented....it evolves from something to another and is then made. They don't work on it till they have something new that's just silly

Yes it would be just best to agree to disagree only without disagreeing with an agreement which has already agreed to disagree on that very disagreeable issue of agreeing!

Ok influences doesn't mean that we can't have someone who created punk. Thats the most absurd thing I've ever heard. People can't create something because that something was influenced by predacessors? Dude what? Then no one created anything.

The Ramones.
