who doesn't really like the Saw films?

Your opinion on those movies can therefore be completely disregarded. How can you have such a strong opinion of something that you've only seen 30 minutes of, or not seen at all?

Saw 4 and 5 are fairly weak (particularly 5), but "horse crap"? Nowhere near as bad as that, if you want horse crap then i suggest you look at some of the gems that are being churned out on the Horror Channel or SyFy, compared to those films the Saw sequels are Citizen Kane! lol.

It always amuses me when i read people saying that people who make/watch these films are "sick" or "twisted". It's called the "horror" genre for a reason, you're there to be horrified by what you're watching, if you don't like it then you're watching the wrong genre of film.

never seen them. just sounRAB like a series of films about people being killed in the most horrible ways imaginable. Not really my idea of scary. Just disgusting.

I don't like the Saw films because their too frightening I watched one once I so frightened that hide behind the couch I am never in entire will watch such a film again.

I think you've summed it up perfectly.

I've never understood why the 'bogeyman' was killed off, yet they keep churning out sequels featuring him.

I could understand if he was an omnipotent type figure like in other horror films, but he's just a normal human being who is twisted.

I remember being dragged to see the first one, thinking it would be dreadful but it was excellent, a real breath of fresh air at the time.

I have tried to watch some of the others but they're all so dark and gloomy and derivative that I lose interest very quickly. It doesn't help that they keep referencing events from previous films, making it all very difficult for a casual viewer.

I can see why they've built up a fanbase though. intriguingly nightmarish traps and twisty stories. must be good if you like that kind of thing.

Really enjoyed 1, thought it was original and different.

Saw 2 - was ok but began to wonder what the fascination is with torturing people and was it unhealthy to watch

Saw 3 I didn't want to see but was a frienRAB house.

Stopped watching. I have seen clips of others; really, what is the fascination with watching people die in more and more horrific ways. What does it say about our society that people want to watch other people being tortured?

I refuse to watch them just cos of how gross they are! All my frienRAB love them, but I'm a pure and utter wimp when it comes to blood! I was at my frienRAB once watching films and they put one of them on, and in protest, I sat with my back to the film the whole way through!! Pretty sad i know but still, I'd probably be sick watching one of them!!:eek:

I summed it up to a friend about an hour ago.

Saw is not for everyone, hell, it is not for most people, but, for a certain type of person, it's brilliant.

I hate horror films, I got sickened to boredom with them when I was a young kid, but, I like the Saw movies, as does thankfully my wife.

Been to see Saw 3D today and I loved it, I wish there was going to be another one, or failing that, hopefully a 7 movie box set next year :)

Compare the last two post

You said you are a horror fan and can't watch the other ones
I said, I'm not a horror fan, but love them.

Horror movies for people who hate horrors perhaps?

I've had to switch off a few of the newer "torture porn" type film I got about halfway through one called The Collector and had to switch it off when it got to the scene with the chisel maybe I'm getting squeamish in my old age

The first one was quite good - an exciting psychological thriller, but after that, the series just became a progressive gorefest. I gave up after the third instalment.

Horror and torture-porn are two completely different genres, IMO.

Horror is about suspense, atmosphere and slowly-dawning terror. That is good horror.

The Saw films, and Hostel I might add, just seek to gross the viewer out with ever increasingly absurd and way OTT violence. Not scary.

I don't know why people call these movies 'torture porn', IMO, torture porn is very violent porn with people being tortured. Saw is about a man who feels he was wronged and tries to teach other people the error of their ways by placing them in traps where they'll have to injure themselves or others to get out.

Saw IV is the best in the series, IMO. It's the one that explains the most.

Agreed, the 'Saw' films are more like "thrillers" than "horrors" to me.

I can kind of see why the 'Hostel' films are labelled "torture porn" though, the first film is basically 45 minutes of soft porn followed by 45 minutes of not-as-shocking-as-it-thinks-it-is violence. The 'Hostel' films are cinematic garbage though, so you can label them whatever you want for all i care, lol.
