Who do you think is more suppressed by their cultures dress code for women, Muslim...

...or Western women? Muslim women:

- Have to wear a scarf over their hair
- Have to wear long sleeves
- Have to wear loose clothing
- Sometimes have to wear a face covering.

Western women:

- Have to curl, straighten, bleach, dye, blow wave, iron or perm hair

- Have to elaborately paint their faces each day

- Have to stay rail thin, while miraculously having a disproportionately large chest and hips

- Have to spend hours finding and thousands of dollars on flattering clothes

- Have to wear high heels

- Have to wear stockings

- Have to get manicures, pedicures

- Have to wear bras

- Have to endure painful waxing, sugaring, electrolysis

etc.

Is it just me, or is it a little twisted for us to accuse Muslim women of being suppressed for having to wear loose clothes and a head scarf?

Thoughts please.
Well, if you don't want to be ostracised then you DO have to do it. :)
Junie: You're right. Women in China didn't technically 'have to' break their feet to make them small, but good luck having a normal life if you didn't!

Even if you assume Western women "have" to do those things, it is not because of any religious or political reason and they won't be stoned or punished if they don't.

The most that would happen is they would be seen as "weird."
