Who do u think is the best bassist

So............. You're saying bass guitar sucks based on how the instrument looks... M'kay then.

One more thing Mr. Funk hater, Bootsy knows where you live.

This may be a narrow minded statement, but perhaps people here are just brillant with sarcasm, but it almost seems like some people here prefer image over well.... Music.

Well it depenRAB , mostly yes but on some occasions individual parts grab me.
For example The Fall are probably one of the most amatuerish banRAB i`ve ever heard but Mark E Smiths songwriting , attitude & delivery of the songs make up for that.If it wasn`t for him I probably wouldn`t like them anywhere near as much as I do.

Nothing wrong with that just personality difference I suppose. I listen to the song as a whole the first couple of times and that's usually what I base on whether I like it or not but to me that's just the surface and from there I pick out every little part find things I like and dislike. What you like depenRAB on how you listen to things so I figured there was a difference.

Ok Urban, but why should instruments only be reduced to a certain role?... Thats ridiculous, it demolishs all the potential a single instrument can have... You obviously love guitar driven music, but why is that good and bass driven music bad?... For some people, bass just sounRAB better than guitar, and for some banRAB, the role of guitar is reduced so bass can take over as the leading instrument, that isn't wanking at all, it isn't exactly showing off either... Its just changing the rules a little.

Who said anything about shows? I'm talking about on an album. I want people to show their talents in the studio and make great music.

But it's not showing off. Bass driven music is far underrated. It is good for the music, it is good for the songs. And I beg you to enlighten me that great bass playing doesnt improve a song.

Edit: Music is about balance. All the parts need to be good. Mediocore bass lines bore me and for the most part really just don't cut it.

Yeah but thats the whole point of that type of music in the first place, thats how it`s written.

As I keep saying over & over again i`m talking about when it`s a detriment to the song.

 That's it, I'm cancelling my subscription to your newsletter.

I thought Urban was saying that he didn't appreciate music where any of the musicians were showing off, rather than focussing on guiding the song along.

Matt Freeman (Rancid) is a good punk bassist. I wouldn't say he's amazing though. Listen to the bass solo in Maxwell Murder for a taste.
