Which one's the best?

Hey all,

I've just sold my iphone on ebay and I want to get an Android powered phone now.

Which phone has the longest battery life for regular phone use and occasional web browsing (based on experience if possible)?

Which phone has the most responsive touch screen?

I know someone on here can help!

do you have a specific carrier (att, verizon, tmo)?

do you want a physical keyboard or tablet?

are you interested in rooting/hacking/installing custom ROMS or are you happy using it out of the box?

Are you into gaming, social messaging, business, other?

Battery life is something that varies greatly depending on how you use the phone. Some folks stream audio and surf the web like crazy and battery life is horrid. others just use it throughout the day and have no problems. I don't think any 1 device has boasted a better battery than others - but I'm sure I will be corrected if I am wrong

if you can, try as many as possible before buying. some phones look great in photos but feel cheap in your hand. think about how you will use it and hopefully there is a phone that suits you best.

you see, it isn't like iphone where everyone has to use the same device

I was hoping for something cheaper. I think that the N1 is overpriced due the massive buzz it has created. What about the others? What due users experience with the Hero?

I've had a G1, MyTouch 3G and I now have a Nexus One. I can say from experience because I have used them all the same way that the MyTouch 3G has the best battery of the three I have used.

I was averaging 6-7 hours of battery with the G1 with a few apps running in the background, occasional data usage, texting and an hour or two of phone calls.

The MyTouch 3G would give me more than double that with more usage than the G1.

The Nexus One has slightly worse battery life than the MyTouch, probably due to the faster processor. The N1 is giving me around 10-12 hours with regular use.

I haven't used the Sprint Hero but a friend has one and says his is about equivalent to my N1 on battery.

Hope that helps!

with contract, phones are much cheaper Nexus is $179 with contract

Ive seen the Droid for $100 and Cliq as low as $49 with contracts

You made the right choice. Welcome to Android Community and to the shiny happy world of Android.

All Android phones, just like the iPhone, will not last a day with heavy use (hours of web browsing + calling). In fact, nearly all Android phones, iPhones, and Blackberries, have similar battery life in usage tests.

All but one Android phones have capacitative touch screens. They're all the same, in terms of responsiveness, as each other and the iPhone.

However, different Android phones have different processors. A faster processor will allow the OS or App to respond quicker to your touch. So I think this is what you really mean.

If an N1 is too expensive, consider a Motorola Droid (also called the Motorola Milestone elsewhere in the world). This will give you Android 2.X which is very nice.

Many versions of the HTC Hero run the Sense UI, which is a love/hate thing. It looks very nice, but can be much slower and there are huge delays in updating it because of the massive amount of customisation involved.

You're best answering thundermax's questions, as they're relevant to giving you good advice here.

There's a pretty good comparison of nearly all of the older (more than a few months) Android phones here: http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/10/19/android-galore-a-complete-list-of-the-android-phones-and-their-specs-droid-best/
