I've done a lot of research on different motorcycles and decided to get a Kawasaki Ninja 250. My local cycle shop has two different ones for sale. The first is a brand new 2009 lime green model for $3900. This bike is absolutely stunning and I would love to have it. However, this is my first bike so it was pointed out to me that maybe I shouldn't buy a such a nice brand new bike. The shop also has a used 2007 model with only 1500 miles for $2500. Is this a good deal for the 2007 or would I be able to find a cheaper one elseware.They did the redesign in 2008, so they 2007 doesn't look as great, but I guess it is still fine. And maybe looks are not so important for a first cycle? So which would be better to get? The 2009 for $3900? The 2007 for $2500? Or find an even cheaper used model somewhere else?

Go with the 07. I bought the exact same model for my wife as a christmas gift two years ago and she loves it. It is a the perfect first bike. It's not fast, it handles well and it is light weight.

You're going to get bored of the 250 pretty quick. I was ready to step up after 6mos. It's a GREAT learner bike, but just not powerfull enough no matter how great it looks. I would go with the cheaper model so that you can save your money for the faster model later.
I would get the 2009. Only because I like the looks THAT MUCH better than the 2007. (My EX500 looks just like the 2007 you mention, and the looks are ok, but that newer model is just sweet.)
However, that's a pretty snap judgment considering its your first bike. You may very well drop it. The newer ones weigh more and aren't quite as high on the MPGs. When you resell you'll lose a lot less depriciation on the 2007. So, yea, that's a true toss up. I would still irresponsibly choose the 2009. >_<

you will get used to riding the ninja pretty quick,,dont get me wrong it is a fun bike but probably one season is more than enough to feel like you can upgrade to a 600..
Soo because of that i would advise you to buy the cheaper one , not because it is only cheaper,,it still is only 2 years old and very low mileage,,,it wont cause you any problems at all,,,,,on top of that next year when you want to get rid of it,,it will still be worth $2500..
on the other hand the 09 that you will buy for $3900 will be worth around $3000 next year when you will try to sell...
