Which films did you NOT want to see.. then were pleasantly surprised!

Reversing the 'films we've been disappointed with' thread... because it made me think..
I really, really did not want to watch Moulin Rouge. My husband had seen it (and it is so not his type of film..) and he was impressed, he brought the DVD home (he manages a hotel and 'gets' films for pay per view before they are on general DVD release) and it sat there for a view nights till I gave in..
It started and I hated it! Too busy and different, but he said stick with it.. which i did and it was wonderful!! Loved it! But have never cried!

The other one is 'Spongebob Squarepants The Movie' (!) as a teacher, in the final week of term, kiRAB always bring in DVRAB 'as a treat' to watch in class. Again, I put this off, but my class out voted me and we watched it... me and my classroom assistant were in virtual hysterics as the kiRAB looked on bemused, laughing themselves at the obvious bits... Hilarious!! :D

So, who twisted your arm to watch what... that you ended up really enjoying?

American Beauty - It really shocked me, i looked at the cover of it (girl with rose) and i thought it would be some cheap chick flick, but boy was i wrong. The film is amazing and its one of my all time faves! :D im glad i made the effort to watch it now.

The Emperors New Groove - I thought that this film would suck because the trailers for it were terrible. The film was better than what i expected and was really funny.

Chicago with Catherine, Renee and Richard - TBH not a great fan of any of them, but happen to come on one night and I sat down to watch and sneer, however, was more shocked, than surprised at how much I enjoyed it, in fact would probably watch it again - never in a million years would I have thought that, never!

The Lake House, I thought it would be pretty drippy (and it was a little bit) but the premise of the film was really neat and I enjoyed it inspite of myself....though I did kind of figure out the ending. ;)

A Clockwork Orange. It has been on now so many times and I get to the 'rape scene' and can't bear to watch the helpless victim's plight, so always turn off. Then last night, I switched the TV on and the film was already on, AFTER that scene had ended. So I watched, and it was excellent, if strange. Can't believe John Savident (Fred Elliot from Coronation Street) was in it!

There's Something About Mary - I was dragged along to see what I thought would be a girly chick flick. But i don't think any movie has ever made me laugh more!

Hercules - Probably Disney's last great traditionally animated film. I hadn't liked many of them since The Lion King but this was wonderful - funny and great music.

Lake Placid - Thought it would be a poor B movie trying to be something it was not but turned out to be great. Very tongue in cheek, very aware of its own humour and great fun.

Fight Club. It's now one of my favourite films. It was on BBC2 sometime around Christmas once I think, then the next day I went and bought the DVD, I loved it that much. Hadn't heard all that much about it (which helped), no idea why I watched it actually, judging by the title alone, it's not the sort of thing I'd normally watch.

I would also like to add Anchorman (boy, was i wrong when that turned out to be one of the funniest films ever)..

The Producers 2005 Musical (Didn't know what to expect and found it hilarious)

and..

Snakes on a Plane (Nobody knew what to expect from that...)

"The Piano" with Holly Hunter. Had to drag me in kicking and screaming. Had no interest in it.

Was totally amazed by the film and when the rental came, watched it several times.
