US culture predominantly encourages the whirlwind romance between we're convinced that how people "fall in love". We've gotten the idea that irrationality is necessary compenent of love and it leads to a lot of unecessarily tumultuous relationships and screwed up haphazardly formed families. It would behoove us to encourage the friendship first philosophy more if we wish to have better matched relationships that lead to more nuturing families.
