I am 1/2 German, nearly 1/2 Peruvian, 1/8 Chinese, 1/16 African, & a minuscule amount of random european which is too little to be considered. I consider myself to be Peruvian because i have been most exposed to that culture & speak their spanish dialect. However, my european friends will unassumingly say I'm Chinese when in a cultural discussion with our Asian friends. I don't look Chinese, & no-one in my family has spoken any Chinese language since my great-grandfather, but I do consider myself partially tusan. Chinese culture is very prominent in Peru, as we have common loan words and share several customs. And although I'm mostly German, I have no contact whatsoever with German culture & my ancestors haven't lived in Germany since around the 1800s. I don't know anything about Germany.
So my question is, basically, how would you define culture?
And would you consider me to be more German or Chinese, while remembering that I'm only 1/8 Chinese & a whole half German?
PLEASE REALIZE, I'M NOT TRYING TO BE RACIST & APOLOGIZE IF I COME ACROSS AS SO!!! I am simply fascinated by culture & different customs. I am also a little bit annoyed when people ignore the way I've been raised culturally & automatically write me off as white & latino based on my appearance.
Tusan - A person with chinese ancestry born in Peru. They have a distinct culture which integrates Chinese culture into Peruvian culture. I don't know how else to explain. Chifa is the best example. Yummy
