When did the veil become common place in Muslim culture?

Has it always been required by Muslim women to cover their hair?
yes, yes.Good answers but I want to know WHEN?
 
It's not necessarily a requirement and Islam is not a culture it is a religion, you can be of any cultral background and be a muslim.
 
i think it was in koran that woman have to cover up everything while man can walk around naked..god...muslim relagion is so unfair with girls...and don't call me racist caz amma muslim too..u know..
 
I think it became popular when Britain was all up in the middle east's shiz and making them buy their cloth, and the muslims were all "Wtf we gonna use this cloth for?" and they thought about it and were like "Maybe our wimminz wanna wear it?" and then after the Iranian revolution in the 70s it became required by law. Or something.

Ok, I really don't know.
 
No actually there is no basis in the Quran whatsoever for a women to cover her hair. It's more likely a cultural stance, since middle eastern women have been covering their hair hundreds of years before Islam, Christianity, and even Judaism. However, I don't understand why when Nuns cover their hair, is holy and good, but when muslim women choose to cover their hair (Yes people, there's no compulsion in Islam!) they're being degraded. What about the women in Playboy? aren't they degrading themselves as well?
 
i dunno the woman's son of a bit*h husbands just beat them and leaves marks on there heads and they use the veil to cover it up!! ha ha i'm serious
 
In the arab world the woman's face is so beautiful that arab men feel that they will lose control if they can see it. The arab (not muslim) culture is obsessed with sex. Many arabs are muslim, not all muslim are arabs.

It is actually an obligation for Muslim women to cover their hair and dress modestly in public.

A head scarf, or hijab, has no association with culture or tradition, for it is rather a commandment from God. It states it in the Quran as an obligation.

Men in Islam also have a dress code to follow.

In Islam, it is said that modesty is half of faith.
