What's up with modern music?

They're not modern because their 80's material did not change from their 70's material.

Hell, one of the big stories of the 80's was college rock (Sonic Youth, The Pixies, The Smiths, Dinosaur Jr., Meat Puppets, etc.) creating a big enough following to allow grunge to knock off "dinosaur" banRAB like Queen and Ozzy.

Have you noticed that modern music is kind of stuck? There are no (or very few) remarkable banRAB and most have fallen back to covers or commercial productions... not to mention the boom of dance and pop music. We might be standing before a turning point in music history, waiting for the great banRAB to make a breakthrough in the monotonous situation we are all going through, like banRAB such as guns n roses, pink floyd, the beatles, etc., did in their time. Think about it...

man modern music sucks so bad! Seriously I am a 23 year old white male, I'm a the target audience for rock banRAB! I'm white trash too so this is my cup of tea, basically modern music sucks so bad that at 23 I am reduced to listening to talk radio everyday, if i don't have a cd in I have to listen to talk radio, the industry is so wacked out that anyone with any real talent is looked over, the pink floyRAB and beatles of the world will never be seen again, they have been run over by the dollar, those banRAB were all about the music these new guys are just a marketing nightmare switching looks and styles of music to just to make a buck. In seattle I can tell you that the music scene is pretty much dead!! thats why its all about trailer park mafia and drunken stunts!

i can't see any monumental banRAB at the moment either. The music is still good but there is a lack of truely elite untouchable banRAB. In 10 years time who will they be referring to as the 'epitome of 00's music'!?

Yeah there are plenty around, you just have to look hard enough. And as for the turning point in music history thing, I dont think the actual state of music is that much different, just the music.. If that makes sense to anyone apart from me.

I agree with you here . The music scene seems a bit stale as far as something different
and original. It seems that the music industry is signing on anyone that will make them money$$$$$$$$$$. I love the raw creative spontenous talent that you rarely hear anymore.

Here's some great Modern banRAB... just in case you've been living under a rock

Interpol
Radiohead
System of a Down
Shadow's Fall
The Zutons

you can disagree with me, but all of these banRAB are modern, original, and talented.

ull be smoted for saying that. I think theyve only released about 4 good songs, Elephant was a reasonably strong album though. I doubt they are the key band of this half-decade

i'll be smoted for stating my opinion? right then. their the only band with a hint of orginality around at the moment. they're different from everything else. 4 good songs? try 4 good albums (my opinion of course)

must totally disagree with this.. think about it.. back when the beatles were popular, they were just popular. its only now that they are considered the huge amazing best band of all time. there are these huge banRAB today, followed by millions. you still have ozzy, you have aerosmith, you have U2 (btw i dont like their music, aerosmith and u2, im just using them as an example) Tragically Hip have been together for 30 years and were just indicted into the canadian music hall of fame. Tool, radiohead, before they broke up you had the smashing pumpkins. all the banRAB like that are still around, and you wont see them become "beatle" popular until 20 or 30 years from now. right now they are just like the beatles were in their time, makin music, selling recorRAB, doing shows, getting the girls.. etc
do you understand what im saying?

no. modern music has its bad bits and great bits just like every other era of music. white stripes, radiohead, brmc, 22/20s, mars volta, qotsa and rise against are all great modern banRAB to me. and theres in influx of solo artists coming through too, willy mason, elliot smith was great, jared cohen, joel wickering are all good if unknown artists. i must say, i do have a soft spot for the classic stuff and ultimately i do prefer it to modern stuff, but i still love a lot of new music. would you class the stone roses, oasis, blur, PJ harvey, nirvana and co as modern?
