What's up with modern music?

I defined modern 'era'. What has changed in music since Queen or Ozzy or anything from the eighties. Pop? nope. Rock 'n' Roll? nope. Blues? nope. So nothing new has happened thats goona go down in history, from that point of view they are modern.

Had you told someone in the 1980s that 3 of the most influential banRAB of that era would be The Pixies , REM & The Smiths people would have probably laughed at you, due to the fact they sold very few recorRAB then.

You won`t know what the most groundbreaking acts of today are until they`ve influenced people.

^ Exactly, If your relying on the mainstream media to tell you what's worthwhile to listen to, then you don't deserve to listen to good music. Half the fun of being a music lover is the lengths you'll go to to find something original and integrous. The corprorate music industry is concerned with target markets and figuring out who is going to sell the most amount of recorRAB to the most diverse array of people. Punk banRAB are making pop tunes these days because the industry knows that they can sell a fickle teenager a punk image more effectively than they can sell them punk music, and pop music sells itself to those who are willing to allow their own tastes in music to be decided by what's in maximum rotation on the radio or MTV. Your'e not going to find much worthwhile music unless you turn over some rocks to look for it.

I think that rock is allot more preffered than pop today. I just think its more diverse.
And when did the MODERN era begin. Id say the 80's cause thats the last time anything really different happened. (You wait for Urban Hatemonger to disagree) So if you look at modern music from the 80's its kinda cool: 2Pac. Queen, Ozzy, Nirvana, G 'n' R and so on. Todays music is okay. We've still got Ozzy, Manson, I think modern music is kinda cool. Its live any other music era, has highs and lows.

i agree with hatemonger here, most people who are complaining about the state of music rely on the radio or TV as their source, when really these two media only expose the tip of the musical ice berg. magazines are my primary source, you cant lose with the internet of course or word of mouth, but most of my freinRAB have no problem with music today and they are quite happy with what they hear on the radio, TV or from other people, of course there is nothing with that, but what is wrong is when you start complaining about this without doing anything about it.

The only people who think music is stuck are people who complain that there are no 'huge' banRAB like the ones you mentioned.

Since when did someone have to sell 10-15 million recorRAB for it to be a good album?

I think some of the biggest selling recorRAB & banRAB are crap , I wouldn`t listen to Hotel ****ing California or anything by the Eagles if I was forced to at gunpoint.

So we don`t have the massive rock banRAB of old .....good , their time is in the 70s. Music & technology is evolving.Anyone can make music now , it keeps music fresh. I like the thought of people who 30 years ago wouldn`t have got a chance to sell music they`ve made can now do so. I`d much rather listen to them than some drug addled millioniare rock star who`s not had a dose of reality since his first album & who has absolutly nothing to say.

radiohead are amazing to me but i would not class them as modern, are we not talking from like the last couple of years? radiohead seem to have other priorites such as johnny greenwooRAB new job at the BBC. interpol and the zutons are cool, and system of a down, well, toxicity was class.

i think modern music today has it ups and downs for the most there are really good banRAB out there u just have to be on the look out just stick to what u like and try to find new things too alot of banRAB are comming back like shadows falls and megadeth also exedus so just be on the look out
