What's the scariest movie you ever seen?

I watched that as a kid, scared the hell out of me.

That evil little bastard floating outside the window, in the coffin and when the Vampire finally appears in the kitchen - just had another chill thinking about it.:(

Wow, cool! I'll definately make sure I track down a copy of the original, cheers :)

It was the distorted voices and that horrible low noise that they used throughout Hell House that totally worked my nerves (in a good way!).

I LOVE horror, and I've watched that many, I forget!

I watched Them/Ils for the first time the other night, and it really, really creeped me out. I was also sat so tensed up that I made my muscles ache.
I would definitely recommend that one ^-^

Someone else mentioned R-Point - a Korean film. I agree that it was creepy too. Very atmospheric.

The Haunting
The original 1963 version - NOT the remake with that Zeta-Jones woman in it (It's crap)

You never actually see the 'ghost', just shadows, noises etc...
It's all left to your imagination, and your imagination can conjure up far worse than any special-effects studio.
Very atmospheric and spooky.

Watch it alone in the dark, and you won't sleep that night :D

edit - LOL, beat me to it Jeff - that's what I get for typing so slow.

"Watership Down". When I watched it as a child, I was absolutely petrified. Not by the scenes with General Woundwort towarRAB the end, but the stuff in the wood after the rabbits had left their burrow.

That terrified me! I had never expected that movie to scare me, but it really did. I think mainly because of that creepy old man.........I've seen the movie once and I refuse to watch it again.

The Scream films are not really meant to be scary horror films, just clever slasher films with a bit of 'parody' mixed in. Well the first one anyway. Good film.

I remember the first time I watched The Howling as a youngster (on Betamax), alone, late at night and in the dark, just at the part where Dee Wallace is under the cabin and the werewolf is trying to grab her, the family cat jumped up onto my lap, I nearly had a coronary, screamed, leapt up out of my chair and sent the cat flying across the room, she took the huff and didn't speak to me the next day.

Well said. The scariest movies I have seen always come from Asian countries. The original 'The Grudge', the Japanese version 'Ju-On' and its sequels are really scary.

Oh, yes that one too definetly......not that much gore, but terrifying nonetheless

Not really a film but a mini series.
The original "Salems Lot" with the kid scratching the window as a vampire, was as scarey as hell.
When i saw it as a kid.
Everyone at school was talking about it too ...So it must have been scarey for those times :)
