You need to be in a gang and knowledgeable about them. You need to murder for your crew or set. You hustle and sell drugs and weapons instead of getting a real job or learn a real trade. If you are a female you need to be sexy and be willing to screw anyone. You get looked at wrong if you wear the wrong color. You need to be careful about wearing blue, red, yellow, green, purple, white, black. You need to threaten and intimidate. Solve problems by getting violent. You need to skip or drop out of school.
You need to do this stuff if you want to be looked at as 'cool' and 'hard'.
I don't even live in Compton. I live on the suburban east side of Washington State, with some of the best schools in the nation and the wealthiest neighborhoods.
Tell me, what's so great about this? Can other young people give me insight on what's so great about not being successful? Can you tell me what's so great about murder, rape, drugs, not thinking for yourself? Your only dreams in life are to be rich and have lots of material possessions and women? Is that really all there is?
These kids are not just minorities. White kids, brown kids, black kids.
Why has this attitude spread like a CANCER in our society, not only prevalent in gang and minority culture BUT IN YOUTH CULTURES ACROSS THE BOARD?
I grew up without a father (he is deceased), my mother was an alcoholic and the state turned me over to live with my grandmother. MY LIFE IS A STRUGGLE, BUT I INTEND TO MAKE SOMETHING OF MYSELF. WHY CAN'T YOU?
Plus, the youth that I am referring to go to GREAT SCHOOLS IN THE AREA, SOME OF THE BEST IN THE NATION. We live in the WEALTHIEST SUBURBS, the cost of living is HUGE and most of their parents work at large corporations making 100k a year.
I DO NOT HAVE THESE LUXURIES LIVING HERE, AND MANY OTHER CHILDREN DO NOT, BUT WE DO NOT BECOME GANG MEMBERS WHO BECOME A HUGE WART ON THE BUTT OF SOCIETY.
Since when did I say that I valued white collar 9-5 life? And since when am I sheltered and close-minded? Just because I think that this gang problem and this mentality of 'I deserve everything' and American materialism isn't acceptable?
WHY CAN'T YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE HOW YOU WANT TO WITHOUT HURTING OTHER PEOPLE?
All I'm saying is that it's DISGUSTING how wealthy suburban American kids are given SO MANY OPPORTUNITIES, and they throw it all away because the media tells them it's cool to kill people to prove how tough you are. Is this really what you guys think? Oh, we should feel SORRY for them. We should give them our tax dollars and our sympathy because they are poor lost souls.
