Seriously, i don't mean to attack them with this and the other post, i thought that was rather amusing, but one of the comments on it got me thinking.
Whats England's Culture?
Well, they don't have one do they? Their language, yet this is a blend of Germanic roots + Latin + French and other Romance Languages + Greek. Can fish and chips be counted as their culture? It seems its all they have. Lucky they say they live in a 'multicultural' society, this way they can hide behind Indian, Pakistani, etc as their own
Again, no attack meant on England.
What? Hows this ignorant? I asked to be educated on England. I can't see your culture, maybe you can tell me what it is, or perhaps realise you don't have one.
Whats truly ignorant and arrogant is the English themselves.
They invaded many foreign lands they had no right to and destoryed their lives, way of living, culture, language, society, and replaced it with their rule.
They did this in America with the Native Americans, they did this with the Aborigines, they did this with the Africans, and they did this with the Scots, to name a few.
Before the English had control over Scotland we had a thriving Culture, we had our Celtic Language, our clothes such as tartan, we had our music, our traditions, our society as a whole. Yet in the present day this has dramatically been destroyed and restricted to a few thousand in the Highlands and Western Isles. Its disgusting. They are trying to make us cultureless like you already are. We were once a proud nation, yet now we are stuck in a union with you - one the people didn't even want in the first place. You spread lies and hatred against us - like you have done throughout the centuries.
Fox - Yes, these are examples of culture, but they are other peoples culture, like you said the aqueducts from the Romans. I mean, what culture do the English people and England have that is actually from them?
N - Firstly, i'd like to point out that the word 'Briton' is derived from 'Brython' which is the ethnic name for the Celtic people who used to live in England and Wales before the Saxons arrived.
Your 'greatest language known to man' is nothing more than a wh/ore of Latin, French, and German along with many others. What is so good about it? And how can you say other countries language isn't as good? Thats degrading other cultures, arrogance.
"Love of god passed on..", what? Modern England is one of the most nonpracticing and atheist countries there is in the world. The Spanish had a far greater influence in religion on the world
Okay, yes i can accept regional ones, your literature, but architecture? Never knew you had a famous, or cultural one.
Your monarchy isn't even yours, they're Germans. Monarchies never represent the people, they're always a mix of the other monarchies found in Europe.
- nokilleye - I see. Thanks for the reply. No, I have no need to comment on American Culture, or as you put it, the lack of it. This was inspired by the comment i got on the other question about someone tarnishing Scottish Culture.
P.S. I thumbed you up.
Okay then, i can see now that perhaps England doesn't have indigenous culture, or not to a great extent, yet you claim the cultures of others and place it into one society.
I will accept you have a culture in terms of literature, and architecture now that i have read on here. Also, your regional cultures, which although are separate to England as a whole, still represent you.
Yet i stand by my claims - well to some degree. You have aspects of culture, but i still don't think its significant enough to compare it to other nations, and the fact of the matter is you've destroyed more cultures across the world and your small culture doesn't compare to that damage.
