This is my sentence:
A strong sense of national pride and community, proximity to Western democracies and membership in the EU all encourage the fledgling democracy (Poland) to end the bribery and....?

I'm Polish by parentage, so the corruption over there frustrates me/pisses me off on a personal level. I can't think of a more intellectual way of saying "man up", which I can't actually write because it's Poli Sci and I'd fail. Does anyone have a better synonym?

"bite the bullet"; "take responsibility"; "pull [oneself] up by the bootstraps"; grow a spine"; "become stronger" . . . these are more colloquial, I guess; thought I'd throw them out there anyhow. Good luck!
