Looking for a Head unit that is Ipod Ready/ Compatible and has a Cd player and and want to spend around 200 dollars on it I also want to get a set of speakers and possibly a Sub.

I am looking for a decent brand and all together don't want to spend over 300.

Also wondering what the purpose of Amps are and if i would need one

I got just what you need right here. Basically has everything and all the settings you can imagine, includes In-dash AM/FM, CD, MP3, WMA Receiver with Remote and uBus USB + USB-to-iPod Cables Included

An amp will take power from your battery and amplify it to make more power to be sent to your speakers.
For instance, lets say you have speakers that require 100 watts RMS (RMS is continous power) and you have 4 speakers, so that means you need 400 watts RMS to make them speakers sound perfect like gold. That deck is only putting out 22 watts RMS, so a total of 88 watts RMS. So that's the difference, 400 watts for perfection, but you're only getting 88. This is why when you have a sub setup, you basically need an amp. With that Pioneer you have all kinds of filters and controls to make these speakers sound great.
I'd only add an amp if you buy aftermarket speakers.
