What upbeat 80s song has chorus lyrics 'I try, Lord I try' and sounds like it could

be by Culture Club? I heard a song at a bar the other night but couldn't pinpoint the artist nor the title. All I remember is that it is an upbeat 80s tune that has the feel of a danceable Culture Club/Boy George song and in the chorus they repeat 'I try, lord I try' over and over again. Although the tempo and tone of the song are similar to Culture Club, I don't believe it is them because the vocalist sounds different than Boy George.

It is performed by a male singer and is really poppy/catchy. I might be mistaken about the lyrics; he might actually be saying something like 'I cry, lord I cry,' or something else similar sounding that I may have misheard. Whatever the phrase is, he repeats it over and over again every chorus throughout the song.

This is one of those songs that most people would (or should) be embarrassed to admit liking. Luckily, my embarrassing musical taste is hidden from exposure by the anonymity of the internet. Thank you technology.

If anyone can help I'd be much obliged. Thanks.

Either Modern Love or maybe You Can Get it if You Really Want by Jimmy Cliff. I think Modern Love is probably right.
The Jimmy Cliff is....

You can get it if you really want
But you must try, try and try, try and try
You'll succeed at last

Since Jimmy Cliff is reggae it may have more of that danceable, Culture Club kind of feel to it that you're talking about.

I'm about 90% sure it's 'Modern Love' by David Bowie... however, the "I cry/I try" line isn't in the chorus...

Tell me if i'm wrong, but I love Bowie and I love that song...

"I catch a paper boy, but things don't really change,
I'm standing in the rain, but i never wave bye-bye...

But I try.... I try..." (and so on...)

Hope that helps...
