im looking for a new sub prolly a 15 or 12 i have an amp that is capable of powering them and im going to make a box i just want to be able to get my neighbors up when i leave my house in the morning
i have a jeep grand cherokee but i dont think i can fit a box for an 18" unless i made it smaller then the recomended 8-10ft box

I would go with ssd because it can take more wattage than l7 or type r and which everyone use them. You have more options to put on it the ssd than the type r or the l7 and ben wrong the ssd is cheaper than any of them subwoofer and i have own all and i have the ssd right now i feel it sound better and take more wattage than the type r or the l7. If i was you the ssd will be a better choice, but if you need anymore help or want to know about the ssd e-mail me or im and we can talk about it.

The Alpine Type R's are really good for SPL.

They can get really loud, you just have to have the right amp to give them the power they need

They all can be heard far away in the right enclosure, but the most, I'd say the Kicker L7 (I hate Kicker and I will say why, but im giving my true opinion) The reason is it will shift the most amount of air, more then the Alpine and the Fi SSD, However Kicker L7s suck because all they're good for BOOM BOOM BOOM and no Sound Quality, a Alpine Type R 15" Will hang really really close behind a Kicker L7 in terms of SPL (Sound Pressure Level) and have much much, much better Sound Quality and Requires half the power the Kicker L7 needs. I've never actually came past a Fi SSD So I can't say much about it but judging from the companies reputation and the specifications of the subwoofer I would Probably say Its in the same league as the Alpine Type R, But will take more Power.

If anything, I reccomend you go for the Alpine Type R, Its best bang and Sound Quality for the buck, However If you want to follow the rest of the kiddies who want to blend in, get the L7, If you want to take it to the next level, The FI SSD is probably better then the alpine type R because It takes more power, thus hitting higher DB's, But I wouldnt because its more Expensive and the Alpine is at a good price. If you want to go with the FI SSD, dont settle for second best and go for the 18", otherwise get the Alpine, You could probably get two Alpine 12s for the price of 1 SSD.

If you want a sub that can be heard some distance away here are your options:
Orion HCCA 12.2 (2 OHM) or the 12.4 (4 OHM, if you want more than 1, but you will not need more than 1, down side the box has to be custom made) I have the 12.2 in my G35 (or did I should say), the sub destroyed the box, it was a prefab that I widened the mounting hole to fit the sub, and the box lasted about 3 months, now the box is in the trash, the box litterally could not handle the sub at all and fell apart.
RE AUDIO SX, MX or XXX (the MX and XXX are expensive)
Memphis Audio MOJO
FI Audio BTL
Elemental Designs 13Av.2
Digital Designs

To be heard you do not really need to get a sub larger than a 12, 15's are for "look at me". 12's usually perform better than the larger subs.
The last thing is that the Kicker L7 and L5 subs have mechanical problems that Kicker has never addressed, and looks as though they will never address. Try googleing the orion sub challenge. Every sub that I have mentioned will blow the L5 and L7 out of the water without trying.
