What is your opinion on naming a baby a name outside of your culture?

For example an Australian girl being named an Indian name like Priya.

Or an American boy being named an Italian name such as Dino.

Or even an English girl being named a Chinese name such as Ling.

Do you think this is ok or do you think there is a limit as to what is acceptable and what is out of place?

I think it is truly up to the parents. If they are open minded to except the different cultures meaning of a name then why not. even though others may feel different who cares this is your child and when your child grows up n ask you why u named him/her that you tell them the true meaning why, and tell them to be proud and confident of their name cause it is theirs and their is no 1 with a name like them.

I don't have a problem with using names from other cultures, but I know a kid might have problems with other people thinking it was weird or stupid, so I guess we have to keep that in mind.

If you think about it, most kids have names which trace to cultures besides their own. Do you really think every boy named Aiden these days is Irish? You think every Abigail, Zack or Joshua is Jewish? Of course not. There is a certain extent to which people are willing to stay with you.

Personally I've always loved the name Hiroko, but I don't think I'll use it with any of my sons because it would be obvious to everyone that they weren't ethnically Japanese.
