What is your 'go to' meal

Did you see him prepare his chicken on that Anthony Bourdain episode?
Damn but it looked fabulous! And he hardly did a thing to it. I want to
try it just as he did. Removing that wishbone is a bit of a mystery to
me but I'll give it a shot.

As a kid who frequently asked what was for dinner, the response given
was always "spaghetti" :> That's still the go-to-meal at my dad's
house, even if the menu doesn't include spaghetti . More than
likely, a home-made hamburger is the go-to meal at my home and/or
perhaps a simple salad. Egg-drop soup is also a good call ;)

I just finished off a batch of a mix that can be used a number of
ways.

Refried beans
Seasoned hamburger
cooked rice
stewed tomatoes
diced onion
diced green and red peppers
hint of curry
hot sauce or chili powder to taste

Mix it all together and store or freeze what will last more than the
first 7 days.

I use this as a filling, topping or side dish for soft and hard tacos,
Corn Tostadas, burritos and empanada filling.

It can be additionally spiced with more seasoned veggies or
seasonings, topped with lettuce, tomato, oninon, hot peppers and
various sauces to make different tasting meals of it.

I didn't include quantities for each item because the point is to make
it according to your own likes and dislikes. I use a LOT of tomatoes
because thats how I like it. Some like it with LOTS of hamburger.

It's also very inexpensive to make. Great for a dorm meal or for those
who are tight on money and long on appitite. Its adaptability to
various methods of serving it and seasoning it, make it great for
repeat meals that don't seem the same.

It's all in seasoning it differently for each type of meal.

Lots of cooked rice in it will also make it less expensive and a great
filler to bulk out the dishes.

Yeah... this is the sort of thing I do a lot sometimes. Grab a bunch of
misc. ingredients and make some sort of peasant food out of it. I think
the last thing I made was cooked cubed pork, pinto beans, diced tomatoes,
onions, chili powder and worchestershire sauce. I think there was some
chicken bullion in there too, and probably garlic. When poured on rice
(which I buy in 25-lb bags) it made a wonderfully portable and satisfying
meal. I think near the end of the week I was throwing cottage cheese on
top of it too.

Sometimes i just get a taste for something. It's not always
conventional, (and i get a lot of weird looks sometimes in the lunch
room) but I thoroughly enjoy the fact that I know how to feed myself, and
feed myself well and economically.

The higher the heat, the crispier the skin and you can avoid the smoke

I love cooking with wine.
Sometimes I even put it in the food.

I don't think I have a meal that meets all of those criteria. When I
am out of ideas, but need something quick and easy using what we have
on hand, I make breakfast for dinner. I make eggs, toast, fruit,
maybe hashbrowns, maybe bacon or sausage. I always consider it a
desperation dinner when I am making it, but we enjoy it so much. I
should promote it to a legitmate dinner.
