What is the philosophy behind "icing" the kicker?

Every time I see a coach try to "ice" the kicker, the kicker always ends up making it. Why do it? What's the philosophy behind it?

Kicking is very mental. It just adds a little pressure time. Why not if you have timeouts to burn?

It's a desperation move to forestall the inevitable. It must annoy the kicker to get all set up and then stopped and I am sure it bothers them enough to make them miss occasionally.

the reason why they try it is they hope with the extra time before the kick that the kicker will start thinking about it to much and get nervous and end up missing it. it wasnt done a lot just on occasion for years but two seasons ago mike shannahan iced the raiders kicker janakowski successfully so all the coaches try it now

Well the first time it happened, it worked. You obviously need to watch more cause it happens quite a bit now a days
