What is the latest on Nimiq 4?

Escalade, odds are you aren't going to get Nimiq 4. While I personally did not do it, I read a report from a user who tried a 6 foot solid dish and didn't get any signal on the other TPs.

Hey Mike have you ever considered that " these" people in the states that pay for BEV service help subsidise the price for all Canadians? With the loss of US account holders that are legally paying for BEV (in the US it is not illegal to buy DBS service from any provider), the cost will need to be shifted to the rest. That means Canadian subscribers.

Good link SJ44. Something to watch during dinner on Thursday (in the eastern zone anyway).

Looks like they are on schedule.
"Breeze M Fueling" has been completed as well as "Rollout to Pad 39".

I am in NYC, and using a unique flat dish equivalent to a standard 18" dish. Its signal strength is generally slightly lower than one would get from a standard 18" dish but comparable. I only have signal strength on 2 transponders, though-- 2 and 3. I am getting about 50 signal strength on transponder 2, and a whopping 80 on transponder 3. They are both considerably stronger than I was getting before (in fact, I couldn't lock on to transponder 2 till the change to N4). BUT, I am currently not getting any signal on any other transponders which was not the case before the change. I am assuming I need to re-align my dish. Perhaps Bell placed 82 where it would be strongest for people using Bell's version of the Dish 500 dish (one dish-2 orbital slot setup) as opposed to those using 2 separate dishes, and that's why I have lost signal on the other transponders. That is my assumption, though.

Out here on the wet coast my signal strength has probably gone up about 20% and I'm now getting some transponders at 100% and most of the rest in the high 90s. I like it and hope it stays as we get a lot of trouble with rain fade. Sorry about our southern friends, but maybe they should hold tight until this satellites footprint is settled.

Ok, so with all the talk here..... can anyone confirm that the nimiq 4 along with nimiq 2 (if BEV intends to keep using it) will provide us, BEV users, with better HD?? Right now the HD channels 800 right through to 840 ( and I have them all) are just horrible.
That is the most important thing IMO.

Thanks

Paul

At a very very small fraction of a degree apart for N2 and N4, if you were pointed to 82, then it no repointing is required as the difference is so small for our dishes especially over 22,000 miles away.

Try

for the tracking of N4 and N2.

I was using 2 = 30 inch dishes for Bell, had great strengths high 90 to 100 on 91 and 80 to 90's on 82. Not any more. I switched ovr to Star Choice.
The good days with Bell are HISTORY!

Lots of Quebecors go to Florida in winter time.. they need their TV to be working or BTV might have too many complaints from the Frenchies?!? ehhe I'm allowed to say that pcq je suis un maudit francais :P

Only 16 of the 32 transponders are currently leased to Dish and will be used as part of their "Eastern Arc" MPEG4 service. The rumour is they want the other 16 as well. Interesting, they will also be using a satellite at 77 as the third leg of group. 77 is a Mexican slot, and must be operated as a Mexican satellite, or they will lose the licence. So, Dish only "owns" one of the three birds used in their new

I wouldn't they improve the bit-rate, if they have some un-used transponders wouldn't they just spread out some of the channel on them??

16 transponders at 72.7 have been licensed to E*. There is also some speculation about EV acquiring transponders at a more westerly location (maybe 123?). If so, it raises the possibility of eastern Canada only services 1t 72.7 and western Canada only services on a west coast satellite. That's not a bad plan since 72,7 would pose some problems for west coast reception. Deployment of N5 and any other Canadian satellites is still a couple of years off so anything is possible.

Interesting. I went from 78% (one of my lowest) on 82 to 88% on Tp. 29.
Nothing on http://www.lyngsat.com/nimiq4.html yet other than the link to nimiq4 now works.

It will be interesting when they update the Bell SRDU channel page as well.

You don't think Bell have just sent down a new software that shows higher sinal strengths to stop people from calling in, do you.?.....lol
