Im running two 15" JL Audio subwoofers on one 1000/1 JL amp. When I first installed the system last year (december/08) i ended up replacing the battery with a new one, nothing special though, ( AC/DELCO to a MOTOMaster from canadian tire) as my other battery was fairly old. Its been just over a year now and ive had my alternator die on me twice, so now i just had a H/O alternator put in which does help, but i find that my system is still draining alot of power (lights dimming, voltage metre on dash drops rapidly). I was just wondering if its time that i upgrade my battery to a yellow/red top Optima? or add a second battery? The last thing I need is for this alternator to die once again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Alot.

i would get a second battery to power just the amp. the amps drain a lot of the power.

Whenever upgrading an audio system, my shop always recommends upgrading 3 things. First, the battery. I always run an optima yellow top in my vehicles. Secondly, the alternator. My last truck had a 250 Amp output alternator. And last but not least... the power and ground wires under the hood. I'm not talking about the power wire that you use to run the amp from the battery, I'm referring to the ones that attach the battery ans alternator to the car. If you are running 4au power wire, then upgrade the power AND ground wires under the hood to 4au wire. If you are using 2/0 au power wire... 4 au wire under the hood should be enough. If that still isn't enough, then get a cap. We sell 2.5 Farad caps for $150.

dont add a second battery, thats just gonna add even MORE strain on your alternator making it so it has to charge yet another battery

hav you tried upgrading the big three yet? if not.. you should do so

and yes upgrade to an aoptima YELLOW top, not red top.. yellow tops are made specifically for audio systems
