What is boot camp like in the Air Force?

It's not nearly as bad as basic training in the other branches of the service, but it's still 8 1/2 weeks of hell. You live in a barracks with about 45 others, you have no privacy, you have people screaming at you from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM every day (and sometimes they like to come in at night for surprise inspection), every aspect of your day is controlled by someone else, you have to get permission to go to the latrine (bathroom -- better get used to that word now), and you get jumped on for virtually any and every little mistake you make.

The two most important things to do in basic are (1) keep your mouth shut, and (2) keep your ears open. The TIs will tell you exactly how to do everything, so as long as you pay attention and remember what they tell you, you'll make it. Flapping your gums will just get you in trouble, and it may get your entire flight in trouble, so it's best to say nothing at all. Remember, it's mostly a mind game. They have to break you down and make you feel worthless as a human being so they can build you up into being a team player. The faster you and everyone else in your flight learns that lesson, the easier it'll be.

you go from generally having your own room to sharing a room with 50 strangers and you are rousted out of bed very early to exercise. Then you come back clean up a bit for breakfast, then your day really begins. You go through training to build you up and make the flight work as a unit. Whatever it takes. It's not that bad. The first two weeks are killer, but then you get into the routine and you're good to go.

Basic training for any branch is tough but easy to pass as long as you keep trying theres no way to fail but Air Force is the shortest and easiest of all branches you'll fly right through it.

You do pushups, situps, and 2 mile runs. You will be trained to think as an airman, you will be trained to think in a military way- this is called a "military bearing". You will be given innoculations against various dieases, you will be trained in the history of the USAF, you will be issued uniforms, you will be given 3 hot meals a day and a rack to sleep in at night.

Anything more than that, you will be told at the time what you are to do- your first offical order once you have reported to Lackland AFB is to call home, you will be given 5 minutes to report to your parents that you have safely arrived into the kind, sweet loving arms of the Air Force- from that moment on, YOU ARE ONE OF MY AIRMEN.

Anything more than that I'll tell you when, what and where you need to do to complete your mission. Until that time I don't want to hear your questions- if you need to know something, I'll tell you. Otherwise, be quiet, stay out of my way, suck in your gut, keep your back straight, always look forward straight ahead.

I do expect you to obey all orders immediately, in a professional manner. If you do not know or understand the specifics of the order given, then ask- theres no such thing as a stupid quesiton. However, there is such things as stupid conversations and if you suck me into one, I will have you do a half left face, front leaning rest position, and you will do push ups until I GET TIRED. I do not get tired.

Also, since you are in training, you will NOT eat candy, or sweets of any type. Fallout- you're on your time until further notice
