to save themselves? Educate me!? This is a long one so please bare with me.
Well there are millions of debates, statements and questions about what is toxins in foods, environments, and in our political systems. But what can people do about it on a larger scale. Not just the old, "I brush my teeth with baking soda" statments I am looking for. I have in the last few years just recently noticed the toxins in my foods; the toxins in the environment was known since I was young and is sadly, accepted by most. It seems like most people just sit back and blog about complaining about the system in place that are not good enough and no one is telling about plans to change regulations, plans that have promising futures for our society. It seems that changes only happen if you can speak political language, and somehow have fluked your way into a parlimentary seat. So where are these people and how do I help out. I'm in university to become a doctor, inspired a few years ago by the toxins in our foods and the diseases that can be prevented if proper regulations were in place.
Let's face it, I appologise for my bluntness now, people are too stupid to know right from wrong. There are people knowingly eating themselves to a hart attack in fast food joints, smoking themselves stupid with drugs, and the 'ol famous cigarettes which don't need an introduction. If a large mass of our society, including most of my family, cannot contain themselves to stay away from these known killers, how can we even have hope that people will rise up to change the toxins in their foods that most people don't even know about.

My opinions are exponentially changing since I saved my moms life in the hospital last week from drowning on her own phlegm from her lungs from smoking the last 40 years. She was sedated and I stayed with her overnight to be a caring son for what seemed to be a mild gall stone ,from eating poor quality foods, problem which needed immediate surgery the next day. The nurses checked on her every hour or so and I awoke to hear her gurgling. She was cold to touch and wasn't breathing. Well I awoke just in time to run down the hallway and get a nurse who paged what seemed to be every doctor in the hospital to get her back to life. After all of this, two weeks into recovery from the gall bladder removal, and she tells me, "life is too short to sacrifice what one enjoys." WHAT!!! That was her moral to all this. Sure she eats a little bit healthier now, but still is far far away from actually saving her own life with proper nutrition and exercise. I have resisted the temptations to give up hope for people not "wanting" to get in motion and save their own lives. I think the messege here is that people do not actually know what is needed to save their own lives. Is this too much to ask, or wonder, is there a way to save these people from their own naiiveness and lack of accepting reality?

Sorry I'm venting my frustration so please bare with me. Obviously complaining is not enough. I want action and I want to help move our society, our nation, and our planet in a foreward motion and not be one of the millions whose only goal in life is to "have fun" while eating and sh***ing.

The real question that is comming out of my venting above is, "is there actions that are being taken on a large scale to help us out and where can I find information on this? What is the the way to get my foot in the door to open up this new topic into my life. I require change and will not stop until I find it. We need it!

First, let me say that you are free to eat anything you want, and if that is "organic" or whatever you may do so.

Secondly, so am I.

Let's make a deal. You don't mess with my food and I won't mess with yours.

You feel driven to save the planet, more power to you. You'll need proof of what you are saying to begin your quest. Did you ever stop to think that there aren't acceptable methods for removing "toxins" from the body (except for the pads you glue on your feet while sleeping, or the "drink this and it will absorb toxins" schemes...) because it is a scare word that doesn't have any medical meaning.

I chose not to worry about any of this in the short time I have left on the planet. I enjoy what I eat, a good cigar and 10 cups of coffee a day. I don't plan to change because someone is waving a banner claiming something is going to kill me. It is a given each and every one of us is going to die. It's just a matter of timing.
