What is a "consensual culture"?

2. Rumbles beneath the surface of "consensual culture" of the 1950s erupted into the 1960s and then fractured as the decade matured.

What does my teacher mean by consensual culture?? Thanks!

Think of the word consensual...it means to consent. To accept. In the 1950s, we were a very strict and conservative society, but in the 60s, the morality was "loosened" up a great deal. People were doing a great deal more in the 60s than in the 50s...consenting to things, such as acceptance of open drug use, shorter skirts, more open displays of affection between couples, etc. Things that would have NEVER been socially accepted in the 1950s.

I ope I explained it well enough. It's one of those things that you pretty much have to experience first hand t understand so it's kind of hard to explain. Anyway, hope I helped some.
