What have lesbians contributed to mainstream American culture?

Let me preface the details section by saying that I am not homophobic. In fact, I was a member of the HRC for a while and would vote for gay marriage.

My question concerns the contribution of lesbians to popular American culture. I have observed that other ostracized groups ultimately form their own subcultures that end up changing the fabric of the mainstream.

For example, blacks greatly influenced American music, bring soul, R&B, rap, rock & roll, and jazz music to the mainstream as well as having some influence in comedy and fashion.

Jews have a heavy influence in comedy as well as some business institutions.

Different Asian groups have brought their food over so that it is common for someone to order Chinese.

Even gay men have made heavy influence in the fashion industry and music.

Aside from Ellen and softball dominance (smile), how have lesbians contributed to mainstream culture and society in the United States?
I am not assuming, I am just stating my observation. Different minority groups in the U.S. tend to contribute something to the social fabric.
And also, I am trying to get some major contribution, not something that one person did here or there. I mean something that was part of lesbian subculture that made its way into the mainstream.

Responding to the question, not paricularly just to lesbians, but all homosexual people have contributed to american culture that they can be different, proud, and live happy with the same sex. Many people find it disturbing, but that doesn't stop even famous people like Ellen to revoke their decision and actual path of their life and how they feel sexually about someone. That to me, I think probably brought lots of people out of the closet, knowing that there's somebody known around the world that came out of the closet, prove that anybody can, even if they get crap for being different. It takes a lot of courage.

Other than that, unforunately off the top of my head I've never heard any outstanding breakthrough in the history of lesbians, though currently, the choice is actually becoming available to do so with womens(and mens lives). Some people are actually accepting of these types of NATURAL human behaviors, but if you were to take a time machine back to the 1700s and go to a church, you would be shunned, beaten, and exorsized.
