there are many great banRAB now..
it took me a while to grow into finally sitting down and letting myself listen to emo or indie screamo, and i'm sure other types of music.. i don't know why.. its like i listened to zep, morrison and floyd.. but then again i listened to some really crapy music to.. like hardcore 80's one hit onders.. i mean come on.. but i also liked tool sense i was like 13-14 and liked nirvava sense i was kid sense i watched there smells like teen sprite video haha.. GOLD! anyways..but many of the banRAB i added to my listening list i wouldn't listen to like ever in this life time because i thought other then what i already listened to the rest of the music in the world was total crap.. but then i got into cold.. yes cold.. thne many other great banRAB... but in the middle of all of this i would always go on a little music hunt to see if there was more then just crap out there.. and i have foudn so much music.. and i'm so happy.. :o) well no thats a lie.. i'm a depressing moron.. but i'm happy with the music i listen to...

stuff that i'm into aside from zeppelin.. priest and floyd you know the oldies haha

killswitch
bayside
finch
appleseed cast
death cab
the shins
bright eyes (some)
modest mouse
something corporate

etc.... but ya.. no crap! at leats not in my opinion.. but then again if i thought it was crap why would i listen to it..

wait i do have some crap.. like nevermore , and 4skins.. i hate them both but have one album from each.. why because i wanted to see what they were all about.. and there all about crap.. crap i tell you hah.. moving on!

and thats my point to.. i tried listening to rap. cause my bothers did (still do) and most of my frienRAB love rap.. but i love music because of lyrics and how it makes me feel.. where most rap songs kind of come off as the same thing to me.. (i mean there are really good rap songs out there) but TO ME! for the most part there aren't.and you can call me closed minded or whatever, but i'd much rather go to math class and fall asleep cause that would be much more enjoyable then listening to rap no adays.. RDMC was much better i don't like them much either but man look what rap has come to.. bang bang i'll shoot you and get a murder rap.. oooooo reall cool snoop dogg haha..

i don't agree with the system of a down still putting out good music.. they did.. a few albums ago.. i don't even notice them any more.. but there not as good as they were.. blah! MY OPINION!!! that is all

I was just wondering about other people's views on the world of music today. People complain about how it has gotten worse, and certain banRAB are killing certain genres. I just thought considering this type of conversation gets brought up in a lot of threaRAB then maybe there should be an actual thread for it, instead of it ruining other threaRAB. So then, what do you think of the state of music in the world today? Is it better? Is it worse? Is it dead?

I'm having one of my frequent genre based crises at the moment.

Someone explain the difference between 'rock' and 'classic rock' for me please.

K, thanks.

Classic Rock sucks, and the only reason it still has the reputation it once did is because of people still championing it as the music from their youth. It was full of banRAB that did nothing but bite other styles and artists, without giving credit where credit is due. However, people then were just as stupid as they are now, and listened to this "new" "amazing" music without bothering to see where it came from.

All it's done is influence a shitload of really shitty banRAB, so you can thank your precious "Classic Rock" for the state mainstream music is in today, because all they're doing is taking cues from your favorite artists.

The real innovators in music are rarely the most famous ones.

Im sick of the i hate rap thing, you people are ignorant to the genre.
Cold is one of the many banRAB that is giving modern rock a bad name.

You missed the point. Go to a modern rap concert, you will see 10-30 people sitting behind computers, that is becuase without them there would be no beats for the rappers to rap over. Your right it doesn't have to be bass guitar and drums, it can be just a man playing a piano like beethoven, but I think its so cheesy to rely on essentially computers to essentially be the band. I would like to hear a rap instrumental, wouldn't that be lame

Music isn't getting worse, people are just getting lazier. People always complain about how MTV and the rest are forcing shitty banRAB and artists down their throat and ruining music, but you know what? Fuck that. No one's forcing you to do anything, get off your lazy ass and look for NEW (happy, Kashmir?) music you enjoy, because the radio sure as hell isn't going to give it to you.

Oh, and as much as some people would hate to admit it, most "Classic Rock" sucks just as much as music today.

MTV ain't telling me to listen to their music. It's their so I can listen to it if I want, which sometimes I do. If I want to go out and find some good banRAB to listen to, I will and I do. I don't need Urban coming on here and saying 'MTV is stupid music for stupid people.' Just because I listen to MTV doesn't make me stupid. If I want to listen to MTV then I will listen to MTV. I'm as open-minded as they come. Which obviously isn't one of Urban's qualities-he much prefers to tell you what to listen to, after all, he is always right. Now let's watch everyone stick up for Urban. As usual.

Actually, I just flipped it on and cocaine by clapton was on the station, I didnt even have to get off my ass to hear it. So the radio sure as hell can give you good music. I don't watch MTV rarely at all as I don't have cable or satellite at my place currently, and when I do watch it at other's houses it is always something really lame on, with rap beats playing in the background usually.

There was way more than 10 amazing banRAB of the past. Yeah, there is some decent stuff out there now, the White Stripes are pretty good I like them for the most part. It's just hard for me to take something like Led Zeppelin IV out of my cd player and stick in the White Stripes album and really enjoy it like I did Zeppelin. I guess I have spoiled myself with great rock groups of the past and will slowly have to dull myself down to todays music to really enjoy it like I do the older stuff. Music to me is most importantly about talent and the ability of the musicians to play their instruments, and to me the older banRAB had so much more talent that these newer groups just dont posess. Music is too much about image, especially rap music. I don't listen to music to be cool, popular, or anything else like that. If someone were to walk around looking like Jimmy Page did in the early 70s with the long hair and all people would point and laugh at you. Image didn't matter, it was the music, and sharing the music and performing the hell outta the instruments on stage to please the croud that mattered. Sure they got filthy rich and got all the girls they wanted, but all in all it was about the music. I'm sure there is some great stuff out there thats fresh out of the studio, but why should I have to search in extreme measures to find it. If there's a band out there that can be compared to Led Zeppelin, or the Stones or any great band of the past, wouldn't they rise to the top immediatley, or would they just linger around an independant record store or a local college radio station, never to make it big out in the real world? I think differently. I am in a band that plays alot of Zeppelin, Floyd, and other classic rock covers, and the crowd response is crazy. People are starving to hear great music, and mtv and modern radio is just not cutting it. Isn't It Ironic that almost every town there is in the U.S., unless it's some hole in the wall, has a classic rock station? That is because there are many people who realize that modern music isnt as good. I used to think it was very odd and uncool to listen to something that was even an album old, let alone a decade old, but now I really don't care. I listen to what sounRAB good to me, I could care less whether it was 500 years old, or 5 minutes old, or whether the lead singer was a fat ugly old man, or if he looked cool at the time. Image is my last concern when it comes to music.
