What has caused the dragon myth to originate independently in so many cultures?

It's believed now that many of the ancient cultures either came across dinosaur bones. Either in mining, or building cities and temples. Many times the bones were just exposed by the natural process of erosion.

So,if you have an ancient person. With no working knowledge of dinosaurs or evolution and all of the sudden you come across a massive skull of a T-Rex or some other long necked, massive dinosaur...What would you do? Most assigned stories and mythologies to match the scary, terrifying things they were finding. its just human nature.

and since we are finding dinosaurs fossils all over the world. On every continent. Its easy to see that all the major societies and cultures would have, at some point found them and created their own myths.

Its also very logical now to assume that the major cultures actually had a wider influence on the world than we ever had previously thought. And as they expanded out with trade and colonization.Their stories about dragons and monsters most have spread to smaller groups that adopted them as their own. Especially in China and the Mediterranean regions.

anthropoligically speaking... simple...

dinosaur fossils have been foudn in all parts of the world and for a ancient.. they probably looked liek bones form a monster.. the depcitions of dragaons are VERYsimilar to that of dinosaur bones that have been found in all parts of the world. so figure in lack of knwoledge of world around them, figure in humans most likely looked at fossils and bones as we do now and organic evidence of animals long past and ding! u have dragons all aroudn the world . dinosaur and early large animals bones ahve been found everywhere and if u recall the yukatan pennisula aka mexico and south maerican area is where the meteor was said to have fallen aka MASS DINOSAUR GRAVES. and most early animals were revered since it was both food, and livelyyhood for ealry peoples.. the egyptains fertility goddess was a cow( and the early egyptians were nomadic cow herders)china revers pigs( and pigs are still seen as a sign or prosperity there... foxxes are revered there... inari is a fox rice god) so naturally dragons would be either feared or worshipped. in eatsern cultures dragons are often depcited as horrible creatures to feared. and in asia they are worshipped and often are beneficial to mankind. which when u see something u havent seen before .. naturally u either fear it or revere it.. its simple human nature.aztyecs and mezo american peoples most liekly got the idea form seeing dinosaur bones indigenious to there land.
( dinosaur bones have been found in all parts of the world thus the various depictions and looks of dragons throughout the world) remember.. they didnt have science. l think of the cyclops.. well if u look at a mammoth skull.. to early man coudl be seen as a cyclop a gaint with one eye( the trunk... since its no longer there looks like a eye socket) dead bodies when they decompose the tongue swells up, the skin cracks and degrades, and peels away formthe mouth area to make teeth look huge, the eyes expand before discinagrating... the hair goes awayy.. and soem snakes do feed off decomposing flesh... and if u ever look at the medusa's depiction... it fits this decription.. and all aroudn the world this depcition is in many old paintings...( though goes by different names)and seeign as how bodies werent picked up right away.. and death was all around anceint man.. corpses turned into monsters as well. the angels depiction fits a a pterydactal fossils and how it looks, and unless u put bone togther right .. soem dinosaur fossiles look liked winged hores.. a fossile where the bone settled above head looks veyr much like a unicorn... wihtout knowledge of the body many everyday things became real live monsters and creatures. hope that helped... the human imagination is a powerful thing and is highly suggestable.

i believe that they were and are still to this day in existence. there are a lot of things in this world that people think are just "myths" but in all reality they aren't. I've seen for myself on some.

Why is the dragon so appealing that many cultures have created a similar myth?
how about in Aztec mythology? I don't think anybody from the old world influenced them.
actual dragons? If by "actual dragons" you mean reptiles or lizards, why have they become revered and integrated into a broader term recognized by most cultures?

The answer is reall quite short and simple. The fossil bones of Saurians have been found by humans around the world for well over 2000 years. Dragon Bones until science brought in the other names.

I think someone (well call him Fred) saw a dinosaur, exaggerated the tale, (said it could breathe fire and fly, etc) then told all his friends. When Fred has grand kids, they always want to hear the dragon story. people tell the story to their kids, people move away, tell other people, etc
