18" is huge. if you want cleaner bass go with the type-r's if you want just pure bass and not sq go with the BL
personally i really like the kicker cvx's they require 750 rms though each i have one right now and it sounds pretty damn good in my car, and i bet it would sound a thousand times better in a truck

I've been doing a little research, and for the money, FI has really stood out to me.
I've got an 03 Tahoe and im looking at putting a system in it.
Originally I planned on purchasing 2 500rms 12" 2? Alpine Type-R's, and a Alpine MRP-M1000 (1000 rms) Amp.

Ive also got a IVA-W205 A/V Head-Unit

But now that I've done a little research FI Car Audio seems to stand out to me.

I'm Looking for A Sub & Amp for around 500-750 dollars.
The amp is around 300$, and the 2 12" type-r's about 275$

The Alpine amp, which is 1000RMS watts would be enough watts to power FI: BL speakers & Down.

Im wondering if i should purchase an 18" BL sub, or just stick it out with the 2 12" type-r's.

What's your opinion?

Get the BL if you want loud, get the q if you want quality...both will give you more for the money than the type r's in my opinion.

Oh and kreekat where did you learn to calculate cone area.
18" woofer : 254.34 sq in
2 12" woofers: 226.08 sq in

formula for cone area pi*(radius)squared

oh and enclosure plays a much larger role than that...I've seen a sub in a proper sized sealed box moved over to a ported box tuned to 36 hz which gained over 15dbs, and sounded just as good.
