What farad capacitor should I get?

I've heard that the rule of thumb for buying a capacitor for your system is 1 Farad for every 1000 watts......my question is that RMS watts or peak watts? I have two Infinity 12" Subs that are 1250 watts peak each and 300 watts RMS each. I'm looking for a new amp and also a capacitor, but I don't want to spend money on the wrong capacitor!
