what exactly is needed for me to upgade my cars audio system?

ive looked at a new stereo and subs but is there some other requirements before i can go buy them???
and can you point me in the right direction as to where and what brand i shud buy???.
i dont want a super system but i would just like to upgrade the bass and audio quality of my stock speakers.

by the way i have a nissan TIIDA 2006
