What effect did rationalism have on European knowledge and culture?

Fundamentally I think little. Distilling everything into mathematical views misses many emergent properties that are patently viewable and more empiricist in their nature.

Although not technically incompatible (rationalism and empiricism) I personally feel the evidence suggests then probably are in reality.
